Introducing Comotion: A Social Change Agency

Introducing Comotion: A Social Change Agency

Today we announce the next step in our journey for justice.

The Women in Dev (WID) network began in March 2020 during one of the last international conferences in London before the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed the world. At the WID Conference, leaders from international development organisations, grassroots activists and young people explored radical ideas about overhauling systems, institutions and powers to advance gender equality. Three goals emerged:

  1. Transition to a locally-owned development sector by ensuring funding reaches women driving progress at the community level.
  2. Instill feminist leadership models to transform our own systems and structures, promoting equality within our institutions.
  3. Increase women's leadership at the grassroots level across key sectors, including health and politics.

Since then, WID has blossomed into a community of over 15,000 people worldwide, united in our call for radical changes in the international development sector. Over the years, we've connected online and in person with our community and the incredible activists and leaders within it. This community has been transformational in growing our understanding of the work happening across the sector, expanding our networks and leading us to new opportunities.

From this community, a collective of strategists, activists, campaigners and creatives has emerged, spanning all regions and fields of work to shift policy, move money, and inspire action. These individuals and groups are foundational to our work and we are excited to integrate them more firmly into our organisational model in this next phase of our journey.

Together, we are now Comotion, a social change agency.

We work with leaders and change-makers to shape strategies, curate campaigns and build partnerships that drive social progress.

Alongside our core team, we work with hundreds of autonomous, local organisations and individual activists and mobilisers spread across 42 countries and every region. These organisations have their own names, missions, agendas and programmes of work, in addition to collaborating with us. They help us achieve our collective objectives by canvassing communities, gathering insights, designing strategies and mobilising action.

We are connected by our shared commitment to using our skills, knowledge, expertise and connections to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. If you're an activist, strategist, campaigner, creative, funder, or seeking funding, click here to sign up for our email list.

Our rename and rebrand to Comotion reflects the community we work with: organisations, leaders, activists, and businesses committed to social progress—people who are challenging norms, building movements, fighting injustice and redefining what's possible.

Comotion is a name that reflects our collective energy, passion and commitment to the work that needs to be done.

To those working hard to create a positive impact in the world, we see you and want to work with you! To all of our clients, thank you for trusting us over the years and taking us on that journey with you.

Onwards.
