Introducing Create Week

Unleashing the Power of Your Creativity

Ever wondered why creativity is essential for our wellbeing? Or how engaging in creative arts can transform lives? Imagine a world where everyone, regardless of background, can access the life-enhancing power of creativity.

This vision drives Create Week, an exciting new initiative designed to celebrate and promote the importance of creativity for individuals, organizations, and society.

What is Create Week?

People need to create. Creativity is a fundamental human need, enhancing our lives in countless ways. This is why Create Charity , a pioneering creative arts charity (based in the UK), is launching Create Week. Scheduled for 1–7 July 2024, Create Week is a vibrant, week-long celebration of creativity's vital role in fostering wellbeing and societal growth. It's not too late to get involved.

Create Week is a catalyst for individuals and organisations passionate about creativity to raise awareness of the myriad benefits that the creative arts and media provide. From professional artists to amateur enthusiasts, everyone is invited to participate and showcase their creativity. The event underscores the belief that every form of creativity is valuable and should be accessible to all.

  5. Host Your Own Events: Create Week is a platform for everyone. Organise your own events or create content that celebrates creativity. Whatever you do, remember to use the hashtag #CreateWeek to connect with others and share your creative journey.

By participating in these activities, you contribute to a collective effort to highlight the importance of creativity and ensure it is accessible to all.

The Vision Behind Create

Create Week is more than just a celebration; it is a manifestation of Create’s broader vision and mission. Create envisions a society where everyone can access the educational, social, and life-enriching benefits of the creative arts. The mission is to use the creative arts to connect, empower, inspire, and upskill society’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable people, thereby raising aspirations, building self-esteem, reducing isolation, and enhancing wellbeing.

Aims of Create

  1. Tackling Inequality: Provide free access to the educational, social, and life-enriching benefits of the creative arts for society’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals.
  2. Engagement through Art: Facilitate tailored projects led by exceptional professional artists in areas with poor provision and low engagement.
  3. Advocacy and Voice: Listen to, advocate for, and give a voice to participants, ensuring their stories and needs are heard.
  4. Empowerment and Inspiration: Connect, empower, inspire, and upskill participants by developing creativity, raising self-esteem, enriching lives, reducing isolation, and enhancing wellbeing.
  5. Promoting Creative Value: Highlight the value of creative arts engagement in achieving positive social outcomes.
  6. Supporting Artists: Provide high-quality work and training opportunities to a diverse pool of professional artists.
  7. Fostering Inclusivity: Play an active role in creating a fairer, more caring, inclusive, and sustainable society.

Real-World Impact

Consider the story of Celia, an elderly lady who had participated in several Create projects. Celia, who had been struggling with isolation and boredom, found a renewed sense of purpose and confidence through a series of visual art workshops with Create artist, Elizabeth Jackson . The opportunity to express herself creatively and connect with others transformed her outlook on life. Celia’s experience is a testament to the profound impact of creative engagement and underscores the importance of initiatives like Create Week.

“What I like about Create, and why I have begged to continue coming here, is because I live on my own. So, it’s nice to come here with a group of people and get to know others" – Celia

Your Role in Create Week
