The Story of Grateful Starfishes

One morning, an elderly man was walking along the beach when he noticed a young boy picking something off the sand and throwing it into the sea.

As he got closer, the man realized the child was throwing stranded starfishes that had washed up on the shore back into the breaking waves.

Approaching the boy, the man asked what he was doing.

“The starfish will die if they’re still on the shore when the sun rises,” he replied.

Perplexed, the old man said, “But that’s pointless! There are countless miles of beach and thousands of starfish. It doesn’t matter how many you return to the water, you can’t make a difference.”

Unfazed, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and tossed it into the sea.

“It matters to this one,” he said

Just like that, we at Involve believe that every child is important and creating agency in them would help to develop future-ready skills.

Is there a need for more inclusivity and representation in our student content?

The answer to this is a big YES! While developing our ''In-house curriculum', we felt that this inclusivity was crucial for our students to learn better, and that is when we wanted to explore how organizations and governments were solving this challenge.

Keeping in mind the same, we organized a Panel Discussion on Inclusion and Representation in Student Content on 08th October. The panel speakers for the discussion were Amna Singh from Pratham Books, Pavan Deshmukh from Shiksharth, Punitha B from Dream A Dream, Dr. Sreejith SCERT Kerala, and Riju Banerjee from YP Foundation. The discussion revolved around 'Why do we need Inclusivity in our textbooks?'

It took months to come..but it is here FINALLY!

Every quarter we try to work on something that is 'leveled' in its structure; something which students can learn on their own and gives them a more practical understanding. In other words, it's a complete PACKAGE!

We are talking about the OPEN SOURCE CONTENT! Yes, you read that right. We officially launched our Foundational numeracy - Part 1 as Open Source Content last month in the form of LUDO ; (learn, understand, do - building junior mathematicians).

And the best part about it is that it is FREE; all you need to do is register this form, and we will slide it into your emails to deliver the package!

The Associate Day was a day when our associates took complete ownership of their learning. The day started with a strong opening which was followed up with various energizers and various knowledge-building sessions. The day ended with associates sharing about their emotions.

This was a great success as it was the first time that the Associates were doing something of this kind and it made us really happy.

“ओमकेश भारती लीडर बनाने के बाद वह रोज कुटीर आना चालू हो गया और संदीप भर्ती कक्षा सातवीं का है उसे पहले जोड़ भी नहीं बन पाता था ना शब्द का पहचान कर पता था अब वह संख्या पहचानने लगा”। -Raju bharti Sir, Kamtha Kutir, Champakheda Cluster

English Translation ;

After Omkesh Bharti became the leader, he started to come to the Kutir regularly. Sandip Bharti is from class 7, and before coming to Kutir, he couldn't even read or solve simple mathematical problems, but after coming to Kutir, he can read and solve mathematical problems. -Raju bharti Sir, Kamtha Kutir, Champakheda Cluster

We had given our students a project to engage them during the holidays. One of the projects included students surveying their community's waste collection methods, identifying common problems arising from the survey, and then coming up with solutions to be implemented. In one of the schools in Old Anekal a student for the project interviewed sanitation workers, her neighbors and understood the problem of waste segregation.

In her reflection, she stated how sanitation workers found it difficult to collect unsegregated waste, and her neighbors were unaware of the waste segregation and hence did not do it actively.

As a solution, she is educating her family on waste segregation as she believes that change begins at home. :)
