Invassive Species ?

Dear Friends,

I am writing this post just to create awareness on the topic and bring kind attention of Honble Minister of Earth Sciences Shri Kiran Rijuji to initaite steps neccessary to control spread and how to destroy it in India at places where it has alreay infested.

The invasive species are an organism that is not indigenous, or native, to a particular area. Invasive species can cause great economic and environmental harm to the new area. Not all the non-native species are invasive. For example, most of the food crops grown in the United States, including popular varieties of wheat, tomatoes, and rice, are not native to the region but they not harmful.

Native to the Indo-Pacific oceanic region, lionfish are quickly spreading throughout the coasts and coral reefs of the East Coast of the United States. Lionfish are voracious eaters and their venomous dorsal spines have helped to protect them so far from any natural predation in the Atlantic.

The invasive animal species pose a threat to the biodiversity of the area and human welfare and safety, also harming the agriculture and biodiversity.

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) for the first time compiled a list of 157 alien invasive animal species in 2017-18! This list excluded the invasive microbe species. The compilation was announced on the side-lines of National Conference on Status of Invasive Alien Species in India organized by the Zoological Survey of India and the Botanical Survey of India.A recent study published in Global Ecology and Conservation reports that lantana occupies 1,54,000 sq km forests (more than 40% by area) in India’s tiger range. Among forests, Shivalik Hills in the north, fragmented deciduous forests of Central India and the southern Western Ghats are worst hit by its invasion.A recent study published in Global Ecology and Conservation reports that lantana occupies 1,54,000 sq km forests (more than 40% by area) in India’s tiger range. I am sure that invassive species are also spreading in ponds of villages and it is destrying local bio-diversity and it is indeed a serious concern in India so the spread of invassive species needs to controlled with immediate effect and destruction of it from the areas it has already occupied.
