Invest in Yourself: Closing 2024 with Purpose
"Never underestimate the power you have to take your life in a new direction."
Germany Kent
Hello fellow goal getters,
Here I am again! As 2024 ends, I want to thank you for allowing me into your inbox. When I started this newsletter, I was new to a monthly communication, and I have enjoyed building this one – learning and growing along the way.
I’m still thinking about the last 5 years of the decade, and this month I’m thinking a lot about self-investment. I am curious – what did you do in 2024 to invest in yourself? I learned so much – taking a course about building a speaking business, another about Instagram marketing. Next year, I’m thinking about taking a course about cheese. I know! So random. But I love cheese and have always wanted to learn more about it. I will also be adding some learning about business development, because we can never know enough here.
As you plan your game-changing year for 2025, I encourage you to think about how you are going to invest in yourself and to set aside time and money to learn. I think that what we plan, we do, so I encourage you to take the plunge and put something on the calendar.
I am wishing you a wonderful holiday season, and look forward to connecting with you again in 2025!

My New Guide
I have a new guide on the website – it’s about the Business Life Cycle. We all know these business-school terms, but how do they actually apply to your business? Where are you at, and what do you need to know?
These questions kept coming up – so I decided to write about it, and put my own thoughts out into the world and I’d love to hear what you think.
You can read the guide here.
On the podcast
I spoke with two amazing guests. Meghan Walker about how critical it is to fail forward in order to grow and learn. We chatted about how to grow your understanding the mindset hurdles that we all face as we move into places we haven’t been before in business. Meghan’s expertise in helping “accidental entrepreneurs”, who have a business because they want passionately to see change in the world can help us all.
Margaret Coons has a vegan empire! The founder of Nuts For Cheese has grown her business to over 50 employees in just 9 short years. When I met her in 2016 she had a small commercial kitchen at a local farmers market, and now she has over 50 team members and is the #2 vegan cheese brand in North America. Self-investment was a topic in our conversation.
I hope you’ll give these a listen.
If you do happen to listen to the podcast, would you rate it? As you can imagine, ratings and reviews are very important for any podcast. Any reviews Figure 8 receives help us gather more listeners and that helps get these stories out to more people. You can rate on your favourite platform (Spotify can only be rated in the app), and I would be so appreciative of this!

1moI agree. Mindsets are the most valuable shift we can make. It is possible to learn to invest in ourselves when we choose the right trusted advisors. We have unpredictable potential to access with the right tools and the right circle of people who support. Julie is one of the most hardworking, strategic, and thoughtful leaders I’ve had the pleasure to see in action. The podcast is high value, zero fluff, and engaging. Thank you.

1moJulie Ellis (she/her) your point about making a plan to invest in yourself and paying to do so is excellent. My role model, Peter Drucker, would plan each year the topics he would study such as China which was more of a mystery back then. Thank you for the good reminder.
