  • Stage - Pre-seed, sector agnostic

  • What they look for in a founder: Git!! moving forward in spite of challenges.
  • Red flag: No forward movement, excuses.
  • Tip/Advise - talk to customer, be open to critique and hearing somethings you do not like.
  • Exit- Generally, not important early on, as it maybe the founder is not .committed to the problem, or even worse not focused on building value.
  • Roland Osborne is currently a Principal at 500 Global, where they focus on investing in early-stage companies across sectors like #CleanTech, #Energy, #Mobility, and #SaaS. They bring a wealth of experience from their past role as a co-founder of Olark.com and have a strong background in product development and operations. Roland's education includes a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and participation in Y Combinator r's entrepreneurship program.

Edition 4:  Passant Abed from Shorooq Partners- Empower remarkable founders who are creating new industries

  • Pre-seed to A:   $1-3M check sizes
  • Geography- Focused on MENA
  • What they look for: resilience, adaptability with vision, connected to space they are in.
  • Deal breakers – Founders believe in valuation over value, and not reflective of success of startup,
  • Advise – always work on super solid network, treat investors and other founders for meaningful business relationship.
  • Exit- very important but depends on stage and driven by vision.
  • Passant is a Senior Investment Professional with Shorooq Partners- an early-stage Venture Capital & Debt fund focused on the MENAP region. Shorooq Partners has invested in over 45 companies, generating over $1.5 billion of equity value.


Edition3: Brenda Hogan MBA from venture ontario

  • Stage agnostic, ICT, Life Sciences and Clean tech
  • What they look for in a founder: tenacity the ability to pivot and the ability to connect the dots
  • RedFlags -transparency
  • Advise- work really hard to develop the relationship with your investors because as you've probably heard before the investment relationship lasts longer than most marriages
  • Exit - strong product market fit and can prove very strong use case and the exit will come naturally.


Edition2: Yatong Li from Sixty Degree Capital

-Stage agnostic, AI, cybersecurity, and data cloud infrastructure.

What they look for in a founder-Strong leadership capability, company leader not just startup leader (Scale worthy)

Redflag - lack of Focus and dedication, no part time, no distractions.

Advise – hang in there, we all know the markets always having cycles.

My "humm, interesting: Do not focus on Exit, as much as you are told"


Edition 1: Victoria Pettibone from Astia, Series A & B - Women lead companies.

-Redflag - transparency and clarity, access to information.

-How to select-No --Pattern recognition, stand on their own attribute-

Advise - Surround with other successful entrepreneur , you do not know, what you do not know.
