Welcome to the latest edition from "Ramblings of a Recruiter in Real Estate" – your backstage pass to the wild world of real estate recruitment! Last time, I dished out the ultimate interview hacks. If you missed it, no worries – it's still hot and ready for you by clicking here.

Now, let's fasten our seatbelts for the grand finale – the swanky wrap-up of that interview dance you've been waltzing through. But hold up, there's more! Brace yourselves for a mind-blowing podcast episode and a sneak peek at the hottest new gigs in town, courtesy of the Macdonald & Company development squad. Ready? Let's dive in!

🎉 It's time for the Prestige: Pulling the rabbit out of the hat at the Final Interview 🎉

So, you've conquered the CV conundrum (no?! Check out my guide here,) breezed through round one, and now you're on a first-name basis with the hiring manager. Guess what? It's showtime for the ultimate showdown! We're talking about meeting the big guns – the bosses of bosses. But here's the twist: this act isn't scripted. It's like a real-time improv challenge, and you're the star. Let's get you prepped to dazzle like never before!

  1. Do your research, it may sound easy and it is now even easier. Chances are the big boss sitting in front of you has more content online than anyone else you have met so far. So make sure you listen, watch or read this before the meeting.
  2. Remember this segment of the interview process is less likely to be structured. Whilst this is great to get your personality across be mindful of not waffling and use this time wisely.
  3. Have a battery of questions lined up. The interviewer will be more open and the conversation more engaging if you take the initiative. If the first interview was about you and the role, this is now about you and the organisation.i. What type of individual thrives in this company?ii. How can I best support my line manager?iii. What is your measure of success for this department?iv. What challenges is the business likely to face in 12, 24 or 60 months?
  4. Don't be thrown by an unusual question. OK so you've got a maverick CEO across the interview table and they start to reel off their dinner table conversation starters. Don't be thrown or flustered. Make a quip, "I haven't heard that one before, let me have a think, or do you mind if I take that one away for more thought". How you respond to these curveballs is more revealing than the content - use it as an opportunity to follow up, ask for their email to send a well-thought-out response within 48 hours of your meeting.

🎙️🚀 Tune In to Accelerating Careers in Real Estate Podcast ! 🎧

In our latest episode, I am joined by Sunil Gomes MRICS (1993) , globetrotting project leader of giga projects, former CEO of Dubai’s Gemini Properties and Chief Development Officer for Nakheel ’s Palm Jumeriah.

The conversation delves into Gomes' role as a leader. He offers insights on effective leadership, stressing the importance of respect, logical argumentation, and the avoidance of anger in professional interactions. Gomes also reflects on the evolving drivers of his career, which has shifted from personal growth and challenges to a focus on imparting knowledge and planning for retirement. The narrative takes a turn toward Gomes' recent experience in Saudi Arabia, and how this has shaped his recent career chapters.

He highlights the incredible transformation taking place in the country and the privilege of being part of such a momentous shift. The episode concludes with a thought-provoking listener question about “what traits good leaders should avoid”.
