The UK is seeing an alarming rise in cyberattacks against higher education organisations 🖥️

A report by KnowBe4 has recently unveiled statistics showing that the frequency of cyberattacks on universities is rising. But why?

Cyberattackers are taking a preference towards UK universities as they are typically associated with research facilities. More often than not, these facilities house personally identifiable data: full names, email addresses and more, making them a valuable target for cybercriminals.

Particularly, the prestigious research-intensive institutions often attempt to remain open and accessible in support of research and education; this openness combined with the university’s size create a large attack surface of networks.

HE organisations are going to have to take measures of training/ hiring efficient IT/ cyber-security professionals to protect data.

Ellie Bowdidge is a Managing Consultant here at Burman and focuses on sourcing specialist candidates for "Student Record Systems & VLE" roles within higher education. Here's some market insights:

In early October, it was announced that Ellucian were set to buy Tribal, a deal which would have changed the landscape for Student Systems. However, with the deal falling through, the education software market has stabilised and has quickly been picking up.

Ellie is currently looking for candidates who are interested in progressing their career within the following job roles:

• SITS Developer – Working on small BAU projects – 2 days per week onsite in London – 4-5 Months.
• Student Systems Manager/ Technical Lead – Technical oversite for the SRS, assisting team members – 2 days per week onsite in London - 6-months.
• SITS Business Analyst – Working on withdrawals, transfers and student fees – fully remote – 6-months.
