Hard work and sincere prayers do pay off. It's beyond words – I cannot explain how excited and grateful I am for the opportunity to join Booking.Com as the APAC Recruitment Head. Part of the Global Recruiting Leadership team and APAC People Leadership team, I will be working very closely with a fantastic group of people located in both Amsterdam and APAC. The goal of this role is to deliver high-performing results in diverse countries while partnering with Senior Leadership and colleagues in the development and execution of the talent acquisition strategy for the APAC region, employer branding, recruitment processes, and analytics.
Why this move from LinkedIn? As predicted, many asked me why. LinkedIn is a great brand to work for. In less than 12 months, I learned a lot more about data, insights, employer branding, and the different products and solutions that could help any size of business. I love LinkedIn products and how this platform has helped millions of people including myself. We all know this platform will only get better.
Again - Why this move? Simply because recruitment is my passion – it keeps me alive and happy! Joining LinkedIn has made me realise even more that Recruitment/ Talent Acquisition is where my heart is. I feel at home. I feel good and happy.
What's more exciting for me beside Booking.com as a brand? First, it is the people who interviewed me and decided to give me this fantastic opportunity; second, it is my love for the Tech + Travel sector.
I have been an avid solo traveller/ couple traveller. I aspire to travel to all 196 countries! Being once a former blogger, former online + offline jeweller and a full-time career recruiter who has built, managed and developed a large team from scratch in Morgan McKinley (combination of hands-on, operations and strategic), the opportunity with Booking.com is perfect for me. Most importantly I can resonate with the people, culture and values!
The Interview Journey with Booking.Com: I have been a genius member of Booking.Com for the last few years. I did a lot of research about them, applied directly, but in early March, I decided to waste no time and put on my recruiter hat and wrote to the Global TA Head.
She responded the very same day, and it has changed my life ever since then.
I went through quite a rigorous interview process – spoke and met with 9 people in 5 rounds (consisting of group assessment, senior business leaders’ assessment, feedback process, individual and final interviews).
My interest level skyrocketed because of the excellent candidate experience they provided. What stood out was their feedback process and what I also noticed about them starting from my first phone conversation with hiring manager was – ZERO Interrogation, Non-Judgmental and strictly getting to know the real you – TWO WAY PROCESS! The Booking People team was very very transparent about the situation and the challenges, and they assessed candidate based on their attitude, aptitude, skill sets and talent. (hey, not self-praising HA!) I have to be honest – I was anxious during the whole hiring process because it meant a lot to me given my strong passion for recruitment and wanting to work with the right people, the right company, right sector and in the right role!
The moment of truth: The final interview was with the global TA head – she shared further feedback, assured me and explained what exactly happened, shared about the next step and told me that I was ONE of their favourite candidates. See that is the catch – ONE not THE. I was quite worried, but I said to myself – if it's meant to be, it will be, have faith!
She promised me to get back within two days and she did! Over the weekend, she shared the happy news - that "We would love to make you an offer".
Yoooouuuu.... cannot imagine my reaction on Saturday morning – tears and screams of joy. Those who know me well, you know how hyper I can get – the childlike personality.
Reading the offer message, again and again, doing my bhangra dance, jumping, singing with my croaking voice, hugging my best friend so tightly (as he has been there for me – through my ups and downs) and finally giving my thanks to God for answering my prayers. I shared the news with my beloved parents. The last three years have been a difficult period for me and I am super glad I am in a better place.
Here I am - All charged up and ready to take on the world! ;-)
A moment of thank you and appreciation: Booking People Team/ RecLT in Amsterdam, thank you once again - love you all! | Mom & Dad, Uncle J, best friend and his parents: for entertaining me, and for keeping me in your prayers - you are my world | Some of you (not mentioning names), thank you for helping me one way or another.
Lessons Learnt: Be persistent and positive, never give up and have faith in yourself.
