How to start your video project and get it off the ground.
Picture this, you’ve been asked by the Marketing Director to start using video in your marketing. Or you know your company is lagging behind and you want to get started with video right away. But where do you start?
Because the truth is, making a professional video is not easy and without the right approach to planning it can become overwhelming. Without the right steer from the start you risk wasting a lot of time trying to get your video off the ground.
Here is one of my approaches to the Strategy & Planning stage of video making that you absolutely need to cover to give yourself the best chance:
Ask yourself questions…lots of them
How will you make it? What support will you need? How long is it likely to take? Who will appear in it? What is your deadline? What do you want to achieve with it?
The list goes on... and don’t forget the big question, how much is it going to cost?
Many people identify the need for a video but forget to consider the planning and don’t set out their expectations from the start. By asking yourself every question you can think of, you will start to understand what is involved in the process of making a video.
List the potential issues
Understanding the process is key to identifying the potential issues that often end up shelving a video project.
List them and start thinking of potential solutions, work-arounds or identify where additional support will be needed to overcome them.
Why?
Because pre-production, or the Strategy & Planning phase of a video project, is literally where the video is made - long before you hit the “record” button.
So, ask questions, write it down, list the potential issues, consider what could be done to mitigate them and then dream about when it all starts going right.
I help businesses with each stage of the video-creation stage. From Strategy & Planning through to Publishing & Measurement. If you have a video project you want to get off the ground, give me a call and we’ll start with a chat about what you want your video to achieve.
