"It's An Honor to Serve Myself"
Acceptance speeches like Niecy Nash at the Emmys shine light on the power of affirmations. We should speak life and gratitude over ourselves on a daily basis. We are thankful that she used the precious seconds on stage to wow the world with a thank you to none other than herself. This is an unorthodox move during acceptance speeches.
We usually hear artists come up and thank every living being in creation and the creator to boot. Never do we see an artist so boldly give the crown to themselves. The world discourages self-love and unshaken belief in our abilities. However we hope her bold choice sparks a trend of self empowerment and appreciation of the soul’s journey here on earth.
Her acceptance speech captures perfectly the bread and butter of our existence at Celestial Content Creations. Thank yourself by affirming yourself. You’ve been the captain of this helm the entire time you’ve been alive. You have called the major shots that got you to where you are today. You deserve all the praise, glory and recognition when all is said and done. Celebrating how far you’ve come should feel like an honor and a privilege.
In the clip of her backstage, Niecy had even more to say--doubling down on her stance that she is the vehicle that earned this distinction. Backstage, she explained to reporters that it’s simple logic- self-esteem is called self esteem because it centers on the self. “It’s not called us-esteem, or mama-esteem or them-esteem,” she explained.
The reason she decided to go down the road less traveled in her speech was because it allowed her a moment to be truly seen. She recalls the dark nights after suffering through countless rejections that she was the only person she had to rely on. She believed in herself and kept going for new roles although the industry wanted to pigeon-hole her into the comedy lane.

She believed in her own ability to expand and the whole world watched the fruition of that belief on the Emmy stage. This moment was a proud and pivotal one to witness and reminds us of the profound affirmation card, “It’s an honor to serve myself.”
This crucial moment in cultural history marks a turning point in the self-love movement. Niecy’s speech gave millions of viewers permission to acknowledge, accept and empower their journey moving forward with the beauty of affirmations. She had to see herself as a noteworthy actress in the drama category before the rest of the industry could see her. Much like every one of us has to believe in our own power and abilities before we lock in an opportunity to materialize that belief.
