IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC! #5 reasons to reconsider your Pharmacy Front End:))
Summer 2022: on-going negative economic conditions; 40 year high inflation, predictions of a recession in the coming year, and a slowing of sales.
BOOM! Let's also put on top the predatory practices of PBMs, patients steering practice and under reimbursement.
It's scary and Your Pharmacy, as many other independent pharmacies across the country, could be on the verge of closing down or simply not making any profits.
Not to mention your competitors, another large chain has opened next to you and Amazon's prices are increasingly unsustainable.
You work all day long, You love your business… So what? you feel upset and depressed, thinking about selling or shutting down...
No no no ! Simply THINK different!
There's a way to get out of all this: GET your pharmacy's front end to work harder for you.
It's something that I already saw in many countries when medications and prescriptions being the heart and treasure of your Pharmacy, all of a sudden do not make the same profits as they used to. On top of that, you're not even growing in terms of sales, and you are consequently losing money.
Most of the American independent pharmacies account only for the 10% of the sales!!!!!!!!! Whaaaat!!! Only 10%... when for example in Italy the figure right now is reaching from 50% to 65%.
So why do not you reconsider the use of your FRONT - END?
1 First look effect: when your patients come inside the pharmacy, they'll have the 1st impression and from that they will judge your business immediately: in accordance with the order and the cleanliness, the communication and the quality of your products, they'll do a screening of the health of your pharmacy. So, how do you want them to consider you? I think at your best, right? What if they will have a first “wow effect” and will stay more, they will socialize, feeling positive, and with no stress?
A positive first impression is very good and does help when it comes to sales.
2 Foot traffic resource: it's clear that a “wow front-end” will draw more people to your pharmacy and will encourage them to buy more. Foot traffic is essential for your business, to become a destination for all. Your goal cannot be only people needing medication.
A one-stop health destination is where people prefer walking in rather than using the drive-through, because they feel good. In order to reach that, it is also essential to take care of your shop windows. No more dark entrance windows with too many items consumed by dirty curtains or covered by many ads. Make people discover you, transform your pharmacy, light up the inside so everyone can see your activity. Let people find you as much as they can.

3 Profit margin: why lose the opportunity to have profits from the margin on front end products that we know can be nearly up to 35 - 40%, instead of keeping on pushing and pushing with the gross margin on prescriptions that in recent years has fallen? Front end sales generate nearly 10% more PROFITS than medication sales
4 Health care destination: transform your pharmacy into a total health center not just a place to come when you are sick. You need to start the shift from just filling prescriptions, branch out to other revenue streams. Start to offer services and sell products that chain and on-line venues don't have. Services as weight loss program, immunizations and for products that are either local or exclusive to independent pharmacies. Why continue to sell things that all your competitors have? Be smart.
5 Be Your BRAND: don't depend on others, create your own unique image. make your patients remember you for your logo, your colors, your particular sales room, for the welcome, for the design, for a particular object ... you have to stay in their thoughts, they have to remember you and the smile of your staff. It gives that pleasant feeling that they cannot find elsewhere.
Be unique as you are, start by transforming your front end.
