It's Never Too Late: Transforming Relationships Over 50

It's crucial to trust that gut feeling.
As a woman who grew up in a time of social expectations, Susan M. Omilian JD 's story is different from the norm. The Sorry Truth
Psychological and emotional abuse is common.
Unlike physical abuse, it's not always in your face; sometimes, it's the constant drip of negativity, control, and manipulation that wears you down.
It’s the partner who loves you, then belittles you, isolates you, or makes you feel like you can't do anything right - so subtle - you think you deserve it.
So, how do you know if you’re in a controlling abusive relationship?
Ask yourself these simple questions:
Am I more anxious than at peace?
Do I feel like I’m living for someone else’s approval?
Have I stopped doing the things I love because it’s just easier that way?
If you've been nodding yes to these questions don't feel guilty or blame yourself.
Falling into a coercive, controlling relationship isn’t a reflection of your strength or worth; it's a sign that it’s time to reassess and reclaim your power.
Emotional and psychological abuse can be insidious, gradually chipping away at your confidence, making you question your worth, and often, your sanity. It's the constant criticisms, the dismissals, the gaslighting... All designed to make you feel small and powerless.
But now that you know, you have to DO something about it.

Here's something many don't realize: if you're a woman over 50, the stakes can feel even higher because you may have too much to lose.
There's a pervasive myth that it's too late for change; that stepping into the unknown at this stage is just not worth the change.
But let me tell you, that's just not true.
I've worked with many women who, for various reasons, have chosen to leave because it's best for them. But I've also helped women who have chosen to stay by learning to reclaim their power, and when they did this, the dynamics of the relationship also changed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Recognize your worth
Establish firm boundaries
Learn assertive communication techniques.
You need to shift from a place of vulnerability to a position of strength, where your needs, feelings, and well-being are non-negotiable.
This doesn't mean the relationship becomes perfect overnight, but it DOES mean that whether you stay on not, you're in the driver's seat of your own life.
If you're feeling stuck, remember:
It's not about changing the other person; it's about changing how you engage, respond, and prioritize your needs.

Remember, it's never too late to assert your worth, make changes and shape the life and relationships you deserve.
Your voice, your needs, and your happiness always matters - Always.

Dear Beverley Glazer MA. CCC, ICCAC. The domestic violence in all its aspects. Devilishly hard to leave, impossible to forget. As a survivor, I talk about that hell and I help other victims. My trauma psycho-physique will never stop. The violence made me a handicapped woman who... never gives up. Thank you for being a good example and for giving support. Kind regards, Grażyna TREBEL G.
