I've Got A Lil' Secret To Tell Ya...
I first wrote this post back in 2017 but my Linkedin/email list is a much bigger place since then and this post is worth looking at again.
Comfort zones eh?
You know that nice, cosy place WE ALL love to be, in every aspect of our lives.
The comfort zone is the complete opposite to stepping into the things we fear, and unfortunately, it's what holds us all back in achieving what we want to achieve.
We've all got at least one thing we are fearful of. Some have many more and it can stop us from taking action when you really want to.
What are you fearful of?
What are you scared of?
What are your insecurities?
Shall I tell you mine?
There really is only one thing.
I'm really confident in every aspect of my life. I'm confident with girls, lots of chat, love being in crowds, enjoy public speaking, very sporty, almost too confident in some ways and I never shy away from ANYTHING.
Ever.
I'm open to trying anything once. If it's new, dangerous, a buzz or just plain stupid, I'm usually up for it (Not always worked in my favour, I must admit)
I worked as dancer stroke entertainer stroke male stripper for 17 years and had no qualms about getting naked for just about anyone if they shoved a few hundred quid in front of my face (don't judge me now...)
In fact, I'd take my clothes off at every opportunity if I could, given half the chance.
BUT.
17 years in and out of clubs 5 nights per week, all over Europe damaged my hearing a little and mixed with the fact that my Mum is hard of hearing, I now wear two little hearing aids that I really fucking hate if I'm honest with you.
At times, I've been embarrassed when I noticed if someone spotted them. I've purposely not turned my head at times when I've wanted and despite all my friends saying it's nothing, to me at times it's made me feel like I had a disability.
I've often felt like there was something wrong with me, like I wasn't good enough and it's made me feel very uncomfortable.
Sounds stupid right? Maybe you can relate in someway...?
It's taken me years to get comfortable with this in my head and I'd get annoyed at myself for letting it bother me.
But it has, there's no denying it.
(This was in 2017. Now, today in 2022 I am much more comfortable with this, but it's still there a bit, if I'm completely honest.
This email is something I never ever thought I would write.
The truth is, without my hearing aids, I would miss a lot and even with them I have to concentrate on what you are saying.
I'd pay ANY amount of money and do anything to fix this situation but at the moment, there ain't nothing that can be done.
Admittedly, there are a few bonuses.
I have a disabled rail card, which has saved me a fortune in rail travel over the last few years and the amount of rubbish a lot of people spout these days, it's not a bad thing that I miss half of it :)
So there. That's out in the open. I feel better having said that - ish

That's my secret.
Maybe I should send someone some cash as I feel like I've seen a counsellor now lol
Some of you might be thinking "if that's all Gav has to worry about then his is in a pretty fortunate position"
Maybe I am.
Maybe I'm just being silly but to me it's felt monumental at times.
So what's this got to do with you?
Well, you've got a few insecurities haven't you?
Ones that hold you back.
Ones that you know are silly but feel huge inside your head.
I know what it's like in taking the first step.
I know that some of you reading my emails and are waiting to come and see me and work with me, but you are scared.
How do I know that?
Because a lot of you tell me THAT when you start with me so I know it to be true.
I get it.
It's embarrassing, a little awkward at times and some of you really WILL be stepping out that comfort zone.
Making any changes in a big part of your life is uncomfortable; especially when it comes to excess weight you may have accumulated over the last few years.
I'm telling you to just face your fear head on and the only way to do that is to make a move.
Take that first step, however uncomfortable.
