Jakob’s Law in Uber, Ola and Rapido
I was booking a cab today and found that the Taxi Industry's key players have the same UI on some screens and that's because of recall value. That's Jakob's Law they are following and all 3 major players have the same UI in that particular user flow pointers.
Jakob's Law states that users spend most of their time on other sites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know.
Let's have a conversation about the user flow of every Taxi Booking Platform
User opens the app - drop pickup and drop location - match with the right driver - cab at your place
In the second user flow pointer, this is what Ola has:
With a map at 30% of the screen, a timer to switch the time for further time booking, and every option available for easier payment processing.
Now let's come to Uber:
How similar it is isn't it, the minor changes are secondary options for further scheduling and offers, else the UI is pretty much similar.
Now look at Rapido :

Again, how similar it is. It seemed like the color palette was the only thing that had been changed, that's all because they all cater to the same audience. The audience is familiar with the UI and users use Taxi Booking platforms especially when they are in a hurry. To get adapted to a new UI, will result in more users dropping rate over retention rate.
Now we already had a conversation about Booking UI and users are using it in a hurry, look at this:
Both the applications, Uber and Rapido have 4 stages that streamline for process and show users that their task has been processed and moving near to the end goal.
If companies stop doing this and only give you a code after booking a ride finalized by the second party (drivers), you will think your screen has been stuck and it's better to close the application and book a cab with some other app.
Ola too has the same but doesn't have 4 stages :
Jackob's Law is executed with clarity, they must have a UI designer with a clear vision.
