STILL SERVING THE SUPPORT and DEFEND TEAM IN COVID-19 ERA

Remembering, Honoring, Celebrating Military Retirees & their Family Members

Dear Retirees and Family Members,

During the months of June and July of 2020 your JBM-HH Military Retiree Council in collaboration with JBM-HH staff conducted a random survey to ascertain if there should be an appreciation observance this year. Based on responses, it was determined that a majority of respondents preferred the virtual town hall format given the challenges associated with Covid-19. Given these same challenges, the JBM-HH Commander, Colonel Peepledetermined it was also appropriate to expand the traditional Retiree Appreciation Day to a month-long observance in order to convey JBM-HH appreciation more fully this year during the month of November. The hope now is that military retirees and their family members will have a greater opportunity to take full advantage of activities and events intended to convey appreciation for their service and support – past, present and future.

The launch for this year’s Military Retiree Appreciation Month Observance will commence with a Virtual Town Hall Opening Ceremony on Monday, November 2d at 1300 (1pm). The guest speaker will be BG Michael J. Meese, USA (ret). General Meese currently serves as President of the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA), a non-profit association headquartered at Fort Myer, that supports the military (active, retired, veterans and family members with insurance, financial planning, investments, mortgages, and other benefits.

Throughout the November 2020 Observance information updates will be offered on the JBM-HH Facebook media platform on the following days:

 ●Nov 5th: Medical/Legal/Personnel ●Nov 12th: Commissary/PX/Police ●Nov 19th: Family, Morale, Welfare Recreation/AAFMAA/Retiree Council

The Retiree Appreciation Month Observance Closing Ceremony will take place on Monday, November 30th at 1300 (1pm). The guest speaker will be LTC (ret) Debra Dean. In addition to being a devoted military officer for 33 years as a Signal Officer, she continues to be a devoted military spouse after 34 years of marriage to MG Arthur Dean, USA (ret). She is a life-long community service volunteer and is committed to the work of creating as well as maintaining safe, and healthy drug free communities.
