JESSICA KOCH | ENTREPRENEURIAL LIVE INTERVIEWS

Jessica Koch was a military brat, born in Maryland and they moved around a lot as a family. That travels that they went through since she was a kid made her versatile and comfortable with change. She always has the desire to do something new and something different. Jessica owns a consulting company; she has been with sales and marketing for many years and she speaks all across the country. She was actually doing webinars and virtual working before it was a cool thing to do.

She is a mother of seven children. When she was taking care of the first batch of their children, she was also working with a corporation. She was going around the country to speak. She has learned to listen differently because there is a sales process of listening. There were things to learn with size, pauses, hesitations and she learned how to read some of the dead air in phone conferences with executives and CFOs.


Even with virtual meetings, you can get the facial cues, gestures, posture and little things that you can take advantage of. Jessica is a sales junkie because she loves the marketing process, integrating the traditional skills like winning friends and influencing people to automation and what we have available in social media like LinkedIn. That’s actually one of her major skill sets.

 

Jessica usually use consulting coach because it’s interchangeable. Having that person who has a bit of a broader knowledge and sees the bigger picture of your vision or dream. A coach is able to guide you through those visions and build a plan and pull out what really makes you the happiest. One of the things that she discovered when she was working with clients is that they think they’re driving one service or product. When they talk about it she asks, “What is the most lucrative product and service that you sell, that is also the easiest and fastest for your team to deliver. It takes the least amount of time and you enjoy it.

 

When they identify those components, they realize that they’re not really driving marketing towards that, so they shift things around and change it. Jessica helps her clients to think of ways not to trade time for money. We all want to help everyone and give everything for free, but what Jessica realized and she said it perfectly:

“When you do give away everything for free to people you love the most, you hurt them the most because when we have some investment in it, then we actually finish it, we complete it, we apply it and we see value in it subconsciously.” – Jessica Koch

 

Even if a close friend of yours say, “I know how bad I need this product or service” and you give it to them for free; you gave them a disservice because they probably won’t use it or finish it, even if they mean to and they say they will, but in their subconscious, there isn’t that connection of high-level value because they didn’t invest something.

 

You can do something else instead of giving it away for free. You can give a product like a recorded training or something that just by clicking by and doesn’t take your direct time, that is a little lower price point that serves that person who really needs what you have and you want to give it to them in a way that they can receive it. The value you have hourly and your energy is the most valuable thing you have. Your time and your energy are your most valuable assets.

 

Jessica loves the sales part of what she does like the speaking, working with the customers, research and prospecting. The core of her career was with one company where she was very focused and very driven. She didn’t have any desire to start her own company, but when things shifted with the company that she was with for so long, she did some reflection and prayer and went to three different companies.

 

She often tells her kids, “People matter most,” so she decided to teach at a speaking engagement that was she was invited as a guest speaker. It was a great turnout and one of the “aha” moments that she had is that sometimes you think that everybody knows that things you know.

 

Her husband asked her if she wanted a business or not, so she sucked it up and they registered, created a bank account, they cried, learned how to create a WordPress website an then applied what they’ve learned. They finished the website, had some business cards printed out and Jessica Koch Consulting was born.
