JESUS CHRIST - Our Only Hope!
If there is one thing in life that we all need, it certainly is HOPE. Whether it be a young child looking to the future, a young man or woman asserting themselves in life, parents who want the best for the homes and families, or the older folk who have been through it all, hope is the one thing that keeps us all striving for what our goals hold for us. Even as we sit back and wonder at these trying times of isolation from families, friends and relatives, we can only hope that things will turn out to be better than they are right now. So you see, hope is what keeps us all going forward. It might be hope for little things or hope for great things, but hope is necessary for us all to continue living. Without hope there is absolutely no point in living. If we are all doomed from the day we are born, then what is the point of living? Thankfully that is not the case.
Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember and trust [hope] in the name of the Lord our God.”
1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Without hope our future is bleak and uncertain. Many may hold the view that it is how things are, no matter what we do or say. That is not the view of God’s Word to His children. In the 42nd Psalm, we read these words: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” How many people today merely exist in a down-trodden world, simply trying to make the best of things? David is telling us something different. He says, that even when things don’t turn out the way I planned, trust that God knows better and has better things in store for me in the future. David is showing us that we need to be people that are true and faithful no matter what we are faced with. The circumstances of my life does not determine who or what I am, the Word of my God determines who I am! David is encouraging us to be hopeful in the source of our salvation, because the Love, Mercy and Compassion of our God is ours when we remain faithful to Him.
In Isaiah 40:31, we read, “But those who hope [wait] in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” The Prophet Isaiah tells us that when we wait on the Lord or hope in Him, we will have our strength renewed. He also exhorts us that we will rise above the situation that we face. Not that we will avoid them, but that we will conquer them by enduring them and coming out better for value, worth and significance because of who we are in God. He tells us that our hope in God will see our through, in that we will not grow weary or faint, but that we will receive power to overcome any situation that may come our way. Our hope in God speaks of our faith in God. Trusting God to bring us through, to heal our sicknesses and to strengthen us in times of weakness and when we feel frail. There is no reason for children of God to feel hopeless or helpless, because God is our hope and our shield, our fortress from the attacks of the enemy. In Him we are secure and safe!
In the Book of Romans 15:13 we read, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This text tells us that our God is a God of hope and that He has the ability to fill us all with joy and peace as we place our trust in Him. That even as we place our faith in Him, He will cause us to overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. God will not give us false hope. His Word is clear that our future is with Him. Our eternity is secure in Him. Our salvation is complete in Him. Our redemption is signed off with His shed blood. Our walk is instructed by His Word. Our lives are sanctified by the power of the Holy Spirit and our lives are hidden with Christ in God. That is our hope and that hope comes from God Himself. His Word is what keeps us, protects us and guides us into the paths of righteousness for His name sake. We need to understand that without God there is no hope – He is our only Hope in life!
