Job Seekers: Don't be a Whiner, Be the SOLUTION

Job Seekers: Don't be a Whiner, Be the SOLUTION

HR folks and hiring managers are watching your social media profile, so shine as a thought leader and offer proactive SOLUTIONS instead of falling into the "woe is me" trap.

I just read an intriguing post about BAD IDEAS...and thank @Susan Joyce for sharing what NOT to do on LinkedIn.

As a top recommended career pivot coach, LinkedIn ProFinder has referred thousands of job seekers my way over the past few years. I work with executives on leadership strategies as well as professionals considering a career pivot (moving up, moving over to a new company, or onto something different altogether). There are obviously growing numbers of unemployed and underemployed folks...including millions in furlough limbo who just aren't sure what the future holds. They are scared, exhausted after 7 months or more of coronavirus chaos. Many understandably feel physically, mentally and/or financially depleted.

I get it. I've been there too, more than once!

IMHO it's always a bad assumption that you should broadcast your frustrations, depression and other "debbie downer" moments publicly. I've been out of work (call it "fired up") more than once and know how frustrating and tedious career pivots can be. I get you, 1000%.

But employers readily check your social profiles and I'm betting it won't help your chances of an offer if you play the "blame game," complain a lot, or spread more negativity.

When tempted, phone a friend or write your feelings down somewhere else but do NOT hit the "Post" button!

Think of how you'll feel looking back days or weeks (or years) later.

More importantly, hiring managers want to recruit proactive problem solvers, not whiners.

The better option?

Show up everywhere as the SOLUTION to specific problems in your industry or niche! That's the better way to stand out in a sea of candidates.

If you're not sure how to build yourself up as that thought leader, let me know what's your biggest challenge. Happy to offer suggestions here, or message me on LinkedIn.

I've got your back.

Pat

Love this Pat Roque! I've seen so many job seekers post negativity and they don't realize the effect on their 'brand'!
