Joe Biden shortlist for U.S. Secretary of Education?
It’s a honor to even be mentioned on @8BlackHands1 list for US Secretary of Education. The @UKCollegeofEd community of 2,500 students, 200 faculty and 150 staff & tens of thousands of alumni endeavor everyday to serve our community, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond! My vote is and always will be for Linda-Darling Hammond, my Stanford advisor and mentor.

4yYes, I have found Linda to be a well-qualified liberal/progressive who desires as an equity-focused “servant leader” to help all those who are “below and at the margins” of her top-heavy neoliberal centrist but noble world of fellow courageous and compassionate elites.

4yWell, I will inject an important variable. Before we can nominate or select a new Secretary for Education, it is critically important to consider what expectations do we have for this position and agency. In 1979, President Carter established education as a Cabinet level agency. For 41 years with Democrats and Republicans leading the White House there has been little improvement in student learning at the elementary and secondary education level. The education gap remains among all ethnic levels. Similar at the higher education level, retention and graduate rates are dismal. We should temper the excitement and decide what is the role of the federal government in education and what is the role of state government in education. And, hold everyone accountable.
