How excited are you about everything that is going on at Calgary City Hall?

Were you thrilled to go down there last spring to share your opinion about blanket rezoning, only to find out that it didn’t matter?

Are you one of the thousands of people that signed the petition to recall Gondek only to find out that it would have taken 300,000 more signatures than we had people vote in the last election?

Have you looked at the voting record of our councilors? Did you know that 8 of them vote with the mayor on every issue? EVERY ISSUE since they became councilors…

This literally means that you have no voice. They don’t care.

Taxes are going up again, they just announced.

You might have missed the memo on how they also voted for an increase of salary for themselves. Even though Gondek was already in the top 5 of best paid mayors worldwide, she thought that was important.

So what can we do about it?

We can do a lot. 

Sometimes people think this is going to be too hard, so we don’t get involved, but I want to tell you that grass roots movements take on steam in Alberta. We have a history of the little guy changing things, so you can really make a difference. If you came here as an immigrant maybe you think, there is nothing you can do, because that is the way it was in China or Russia or wherever you came from. This is Canada. You matter. Your voice matters. Get involved.

A group of us got together last spring and started networking together and we decided to make a change. We decided to start a party that is all about putting a mayor and councilors into place that care, and that listen to you. It is called A Better Calgary Party.  Have a look at our guiding principles. If you like them, use this opportunity to get a free membership, so you can vote within the party for people that you believe in. We are going to run candidates against each other in each ward. Then you get to vote if you are a member. Then we will stop the vote splitting because we will have a candidate that is strongly supported by all of our members who will run in the city elections. We can put our time and money behind the winners and this will make a difference.
