🌍 JOIN US FOR CLEAN AIR DAY 2024! 🌍

Clean Air Day is a global annual event led by the charity Global Action Plan. It urges us all to consider our impact on air quality. Air pollution remains a critical threat to health, with children, older people, and those with pre-existing health conditions being the most vulnerable. Our dedicated Acoustics and Air Quality team have compiled a quick guide to show you how to make a difference.

🚗 Sources of Air Pollution 🚗

Air pollution comes from various internal and external sources. Every sector contributes to the air we breathe, from agriculture and construction to domestic cleaning products and road transport.

This year, Global Action Plan calls on the next government to "Get on Board with Clean Air." Global Action Plan aim to make active and sustainable travel options like walking, cycling, and scootering safer and more accessible. According to official data, cars and vans significantly contribute to the UK's greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. By switching to public transport or active travel, we can make a significant impact:

  • If everyone switched one car journey a month for a bus trip, we'd see a billion fewer car journeys each year.
  • If 50% of short urban journeys were walked or wheeled, the carbon saved could power every home in Manchester, Bristol, or Liverpool.
  • Taking the train produces nearly 80% less carbon emissions than driving.

At BWB, we have been engaging with our people to see what changes we can make as a business. We continue encouraging our people to look after their wellbeing and health and encourage active travel.
