Do you believe someday you will live a life that you dreamt of and not the one that was given to you?
With that thought, I welcome you to peep into my short and exciting Journey so far and my belief to make it big one day. Hoping to motivate few millions along the way! J
Post starting a YouTube channel and sharing my learning from Millionaires and Billioance on social media to help people, I had a lot of people asking me about my goal of inspiring and empowering 10 million people and why am I doing this?
Let me ask you this, did you know there are 267 million people in India falling in a middle-class category?
In next 5 mins, you will understand the reason why am I on this mission and my reason behind Mission10Million!
Growing Up:
Born in a lower middleclass family, father a truck driver and mother a house maker; my brother and I were lucky few within our community who studied in an English medium school in a small town “Adipur” (Kutch District – Gujarat). So grateful to my parents for sending us to an English Medium School overcoming all the hardships, however apart from the classroom sessions and books, there was no English in our lives. Everyone spoke in either Hindi or Gujarati, few in Sindhi as well. So it is obvious that I was bad at English and had terrible Gujarati accent at that time.
Average Company - Average Thinking:
Most of the technology companies originated in Silicon Valley, Why? Because of the tech savvy neighborhood. Everyone eats, sleeps and dreams technology. Ideas breed more innovative ideas.
I am sure you already know the story of Google, Apple and other big giants. Some originated from the discussion over a coffee at the famous coffee shop there. Company matters!
I grew up in an environment with an average schooling, an average company, an average middleclass life. Everyone was happy and satisfied with the average paying jobs, the average grades, the average lifestyle. Not that anyone was bad but the truth is everyone limited themselves to an average life and that is the biggest mistake even I made which cost me so many years.
Why? Because no one told me that I can become great!
Why? Because no one told me to work so hard till people call you crazy if I have to live a rich life. Rich not just in terms of money but health and family too!
Why do we have to ask friends to refer us for a job? Because most of us were average performers!
Why do we always have to watch our spending? Because we have not created enough wealth!
Why do we not have great health? Because we don’t eat right and workout!
Why do we always worry about expenses? Why not focus on how we can multiply our incomes!
Schools don’t teach you to have a dream, be passionate, stay motivated, and more. You have to realize it yourself someday. Sooner the better!
“Average company breeds average thinking”
My Journey:
Having no idea of what to do post-college, I grabbed whatever opportunity came my way, i.e the booming industry at that time – BPO.
Despite living in Mumbai and other metros, I still lived with my average mentality. I was in a company of people who were great (some average who were happy and satisfied with their average lives) but I did not realize I was suffering from an average thinking disease.
1) Start of Career:
Started my career with a domestic call center, where my opening greeting line use to be – “Namaskar, hoon Dev tamari kevi reete sahayata kari sakoon” (Hi, this is Dev here, how can I help you?). That’s a killer greeting line, isn’t it? J
When I decided to move from Gujarati world (Domestic BPO) to English World (International BPO), a lot of people told me not to take a risk because they hire and fire fast. I still decided to take a risk despite having the wonderful Gujju accent and terrific English grammar. Thanks to that risk I improved my communication skills
2) Wipro days -
During training days, I was laughed at for my Gujju pronunciations like “JEE” tv for “Zee” tv, “Snacks” sounding like “Snakes”. Grammatical errors like – ‘He say’, ‘I didn’t went’ and it goes on and on.
Thanks to my great communications skills I got myself 7 weeks of On-Job-Training (OJT) against usual 3 weeks. I probably hold the record for highest no. of weeks spent in an OJT in Wipro – FUN Ha!
FYI…OJT was after 1-month of classroom training, so I really did great to earn myself the 7 weeks record I guess, wink!
Huge THANK YOU to Sandeep Dave and his amazing OJT squad - Chetan, Dixit, Sid, Sarita, and others. They didn’t give up on me as they saw my commitment to make it happen!
Fast-forward 1.5 years, I was the one training people in OJT (Thanks to Shibli Joad) and helping them become good at customer service and upselling. That was the time I realized, how much I like to help people become better at their job!
3) Oracle Days –
Oracle days were the most important days in my career as it taught me ABC of sales through different sales training and methodologies like Sandlers, Costigan, Emotional Intelligence etc. Very thankful to great leaders and supporters like Sumant Padmanabhan, Satya, Sameer, Rajesh and others
BIG thank you to my brother, Mansingh Gadhvi for always helping & guiding me!
Sales Luck by Chance:
Sales happened to me by luck but after being in sales for a decade, I realized I landed at the best place because sales drive the economy. Imagine if there were no salespeople, all the production will go waste if not consumed to the optimum level. Sales exists since barter age and probably before that
Sales folks can command and demand a greater paycheck if they produce in great quantities. This role has the ability to earn unlimited money in the form of commission. Work from wherever you want, whenever you want (provided you keep the cash register ringing). Travel around the world and see some of the amazing places. There are very few jobs like sales that has so much leverage!
But for an average performance, you won’t have most of the above privilege. So it brings me to my next point!
Average Thinking is the Most Dangerous Disease – Hard to Detect:
Despite being called a good performer and a star, I realized that I never worked up to my potential and became satisfied with the average output. An average performance will only get me an average life. Here I was, a victim of average thinking disease.
I am very confident, you too have been a victim of this disease at some point in your life. As you know there are at least 150 Million people living in India who are not yet aware that they have this disease. An average middle-class working Indian is not willing to push himself/herself to do great in life. We call ourselves professionals but 80% of us are far from becoming one and reason is, we don’t practice our skills enough, especially in sales!
“Kill the average disease before you are deceased”
If you want a life that you and your family deserve, you need to come of out of average mentality and aim to become great. By not committing to becoming great, you are cheating on yourself and your family!
Average Disease Cure - Commitment:
Step 1 - Realization
Step 2 - Committing to becoming great
Step 3 – Diagnose it by mastering your skills
Step 4 – Sustain the momentum
I can help you with step 3 & 4, but none of this matters if first two steps are not met
So, here I am, committed to not only becoming great but also help millions along the way. I 100% believe in my dreams and I will make it happen. I have committed to help people wake up from their average middleclass sleep and not let them waste their precious years sitting in front of an idiot box and consuming garbage on FB, like I did!
Serving and helping others is the best thing a human being can do to make his/her life count. One doesn’t have to be Mother Teresa to help, do what you can in your own capacity!
Why 10 million –
According to NCAER, India's middle class population would be 267 million in 2016. Further ahead, by 2025-26 the number of middle class households in India is likely to more than double from the 2015-16 levels to 113.8 million households or 547 million individuals.
70% of the 267 million people, i.e. 186 million have the average disease and I know for sure I have a cure. So helping 10 million, to begin with, is not a bad goal to have, do you agree? J
