JOURNEY OR DESTINATION?
We all start somewhere and we all go somewhere. Depending on what we want to do or experience on the journey and what comes to us outside of our control on the journey impacts our life tremendously.
We strive to achieve goals yet some goals are much farther out of reach then others. The journey may be arduous and we may decide to throw in the towel, switch gears, really just admit defeat when we are a sliver away from achieving what we always wanted. However, we as humans have also been known to achieve our goals but not be satisfied, always looking for something more, the next best thing. So what really is the purpose? Is it the journey or the destination that matters more?

If you look back on your life and begin to list all that you’ve ever achieved, as early as a star you received from your teacher during childhood to the biggest promotion you ever could have gotten, did you stop striving for more? I don’t think so. You didn’t say that’s all that I have in me, I’m good. If you did, life would be boring. Rather you continue to strive for more and better. You experience the good, the bad and the ugly on the way, yet you still keep on going. Some journeys are more winding and confusing and others are more clear. The journey could be very interesting or very boring, it could take up more than half of your lifetime or just a brief second. For each of us our journeys are varied and are uniquely our own and if we value the journey it makes our experience even that much richer.
The journey could take up more than half of your lifetime or just a brief second.
As for me, I’ve been working on developing a lot of things throughout my life. Sometimes things work out and other times they don’t. Sometimes the result is expected and other times it is totally unexpected. The beauty in this process is that no matter the result, we experience the journey, the moment, the creation, the development of whatever we’re focusing our attention on. The result is the outcome, the journey is the magical process. Never easy but always rewarding, even when we don’t get the results we want.
The result is the outcome, the journey is the magical process.
So where is this thought coming from? Why does the journey require focus here? It's because sometimes we forget how important it is. We just want results and we may not enjoy the process. The learning, the lessons, the emotions, the struggle, the ups, the downs, the winding road and everything in between. Being focused on the journey allows us to find its importance. Those moments you sat listening to your grandmother telling you stories about her life and wise lessons, the moment you forgot your phone at home and spent time with your thoughts rather than just scrolling mindlessly, the trips that made you want to quit everything and travel the world, the lost luggage, the exciting encounters, the loves, the enemies, the forgiveness, the regret, the tears, the laughter, all of these are part of your journey. The big moments you'll never forget and the small ones you will always remember.
The journey is not just about your career, because you're a person before being an employee or entrepreneur. The journey is about all the small moments that make up your life, from the moment you wake up to the moment you fall asleep. Everything meshed into a day multiplied by weeks, months, years, decades. This makes up your lifetime. And rather than just focusing on results, taking in all that life offers you on the way to the end, the process of growing, learning, experiencing, feeling, thinking, loving, expressing, that's what matters.
...the process of growing, learning, experiencing, feeling, thinking, loving, expressing, that's what matters.
Enjoy your journey no matter the end result. It will offer you a much more bountiful experience that you will remember, that you will find gratitude in and that you will truly enjoy. Rather than looking for the next best thing or being dissatisfied, enjoying the journey gives you abundant experiences because you never know where the road leads and where the journey will take you.
