PM Modi bats for solar power, group housing models

• New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged stakeholders to discuss ways of linking housing with technology for making strong but affordable houses benefiting from solar power and group housing models acceptable in both urban and rural areas.
• A target has also been set to eliminate sickle cell disease.
• Emphasising the importance of good governance and constant monitoring for achieving desired goals, PM Modi said, “The more emphasis we put on good governance, the more easily our goal of reaching the last mile will be accomplished."
• We have to rapidly provide facilities to our tribal friends in more than 22,000 villages in more than 200 districts of the country."
• He said that for this, thousands of crore rupees have been allocated to Jal Jeevan Mission.
• We have to create a mechanism for new water connections and the pattern of water consumption.

• These three states should maximise their renewable energy generation potential, and at the same time increase their commitment to moving away from fossil-fuels-based electricity," says co-author Saloni Sachdeva Michael, Energy Analyst, IEEFA.Apart from ramping up renewable energy capacity and storage, the report recommends that states take a multi-dimensional approach towards the clean electricity transition, which includes efforts on the demand side.
• "State energy departments also need to strengthen electricity infrastructure for better integration of renewables.
• Another key aspect where states can do better is data availability and transparency.
• Finally, the report highlights that several states must also bridge the gap between the intent of their electricity transition policies and their implementation.
