Life
Back to school in September. Tommy started his LAST term at DePaul and will graduate in December with a degree in business. If anyone wants to hire a smart, mature, talented kid, send him a message. Jackie has started her senior year at Barrington High School and Kelly is still working toward a degree in Early Childhood Development. Who knows what comes next, but I'm watching eagerly.
Sports World
Football season kicked off with the most important event - Fantasy Football Drafts. I'm now in 3 leagues - one started in 1995, one in 1997 and one in 2021. As usual, I wasn't too happy with my teams after the draft. Technically, we do an auction rather than a draft (10 Reasons to Switch Your League to an Auction)
The Giants and Bears both starting the season at 2-1 is quite a pleasant surprise. Both have about a 25% chance of making the playoffs.
Aaron Judge hit home run number 61. He needs one more in 6 remaining games to set the AL record (and to some, the asterisk free record - although I don't support the asterisk). The baseball postseason is close to set - just the Phillies and Brewers battling for the last spot. Most are expecting a Yankees-Dodgers World Series.
Hello, World
I spent time in both London and Italy working on our big project this past month. The goal was to solidify our plans for getting from today to the Milano Cortina 2026 Games. It continues to blow my mind on how many moving parts must be coordinated to pull of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It also reminded me that pragmatic, rigorous project management is necessary for any complex project and that such project management is NOT in conflict with modern, agile delivery practices.
There are lots of pressures on the project in Italy. Italians have elected a new prime minister in Giorgia Meloni. Meloni is to appoint a new CEO for the Milano Cortina Foundation (responsible for putting on the Games) shortly. The current prediction is Andrea Abodi, President of national Bank Institute for Sport Credit will be her choice.
