Kindle is Also an App

I am currently promoting my upcoming novel, Tumult in Mecca.

One of my campaigns offer the Kindle version of the book for free for a limited period (five days) in September.

A response I regularly get is:

I don’t have a Kindle.

While the Kindle can be a dedicated book reading device from Amazon, it is also available as an app for all operating systems. And it is free!

Kindle Advantages

Although it is not my mission in life to convince anyone to read e-books, there are certain advantages that speak in their favour:

• E-books are in general lower priced than paper books
• Delivery is instant
• They are convenient for travelling
• They are lighter when reading in bed (well, they are lighter no matter where you read them)
• They don't take up much space in your home
• You can highlight text, take notes and share content directly to social media
• They are searchable (if you are looking for a certain word or passage)

I do respect if you prefer to listen to books or enjoy holding a paper version in your hands. I just thought that you should know the Kindle app option.

You cannot buy books from within the Kindle app. Not even those that cost nothing. To buy e-books or get them for free, you need an account with amazon.com and buy them through your browser. The reason is that Google and Apple charge for in-app purchases (30% is what I've heard), which Amazon doesn't want to pay. You can buy books from within the Kindle tablet, but not from within the Kindle as an app. Even though I have a Kindle Paperwhite, I always buy the books from a browser, where the UI is so much better.

As soon as you have a Kindle account, Amazon will give you an e-mail address to which you can send books and other documents that you have acquired elsewhere. When compliant with the formats Amazon support, you can read them in the Kindle app as well.
