The Kuenyehia 2023 Prize for contemporary art has unveiled its shortlist of 15 exceptional artists from across West Africa. Out of the 170 applications received, 4 Ghanaians, 10 Nigerians, and 1 artist from Benin have been selected to compete for the prestigious award.
The Kuenyehia Prize, curated to recognize and reward outstanding artists aged 25 to 40, serves as a catalyst for their careers. Beyond the attractive prize money, winners and runners-up receive valuable tools to enhance their artistic practice, along with exposure through the extensive network of the Kuenyehia Trust.
Established in 2013 by Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, the not-for-profit Kuenyehia Trust for Contemporary Art aims to advance contemporary art, particularly of African origin. The organization actively supports emerging and mid-career artists residing in Africa, fostering a vibrant local and international market for African art. Additionally, it contributes to the advancement of art education on the continent.
