At 17:40 local time on July 13, a large container ship under Wan Hai named WAN HAI A02, with a capacity of up to 11,000 TEU, was suspected to have suffered from bad weather when it was departing from the port of Cai Mep, Vietnam, the container ship lost control of the ship and crashed into a nearby large freighter, resulting in serious damage to the terminal and the collapse of the terminal facilities, which are about 46 meters long.
It is understood that at the time of the accident, WAN HAI A02 had just completed loading and unloading operations and was ready to leave Cai Mep International Container Terminal, and drifted out of the channel while navigating in the Thi Vai channel, and the port side of the ship struck a large bulk carrier VASSOS 2 berthed at Interflour Terminal, and the vibrations and pressures caused the collapse of the terminal facilities of about 46 meters, and led to the fall of part of loading and unloading equipments and cargoes into the water.
