Largest Replicated Universe Simulation

Visualization of cosmic structure formation and galaxy clusters.

In a groundbreaking achievement, researchers at Argonne National Laboratory have created the largest universe simulation ever, using the Frontier supercomputer to simultaneously model both atomic and dark matter across cosmic scales.

The simulation, which ran on approximately 9,000 compute nodes and performed nearly 300 times faster than previous attempts, sets a new standard for cosmological hydrodynamics and will help scientists match observational data from large telescope surveys with theoretical models.

AWS & Anthropic vs. OpenAI-MS & Nvidia

Anthropic logo.

Amazon has invested an additional $4 billion in Anthropic (total $8 billion) while making AWS Anthropic's primary cloud platform and pushing its custom Trainium chips, in what appears to be a strategic move to challenge both Microsoft-OpenAI's dominance and reduce reliance on Nvidia's GPUs.

This comes at a critical time, as Nvidia has been reported to control 97.7% of the pure GPU chip market and has seen explosive revenue growth from $7.1 billion to $22.1 billion between Q1 and Q4 2024, largely driven by AI workloads.

The partnership highlights the growing competition in AI infrastructure, where cloud providers are developing their own chips to reduce dependence on Nvidia, even as analysts predict Nvidia's dominance will continue for at least the next five years.
