The Latest Email Template - Please Stop Using It

Here is the latest email template, I have had literally hundreds of emails in this format.

I have no idea where this comes from but, please, please, please stop using it and write something original.

The email structure goes like this …

- Platitude about Covid19

- Link to a blog I’ve written

- Sales pitch about something nobody cares about

Once I’ve read the platitude about Covid 19 I hit the delete button.

Sales Secret

When I started in sales, I was told I needed to be different from the competition. Templates, it may surprise some people are exactly the same as your competition. So where is your differentiation?

Don’t forget I know nothing about your products and services so if you are the same as all your competitors, how on earth can I differentiate between you all and make a decision for you?

Know, Like and Trust

People buy from people they know, like and trust, why would sending an email out of the blue, suddenly get me to go “wow this person is amazing”. I don’t, I think it’s sad.

I’ve just been sent an email referring to a blog, where I talk about the importance of being great on social, the sender, looked like a spammer on social (Come on it's 2020, we all look people up on social!)

If you are going to quote people’s content, surely you should have read the article, better still, taken action? Or if not, maybe make a comment on why you haven't.

What's The Best Way To Connect to Somebody?

The blog gives my social details as the place to get hold of me, but the person has sent me an email instead. Of course, that’s my bad, this was an email template and you are going to send them out even if I hate email.

It would seem we have a case of “I’ve got a email template and I’m going to use it”
