What's going on in Adtech, Blockchain & Web3 this week?

Google's parent company, Alphabet, is being sued in London for allegedly abusing its power in online advertising.

The lawsuit, seeking $16.9 billion in damages, is brought by UK-based publishers claiming losses due to Google's anti competitive behaviour.

The Ad Tech Collective Action, representing the publishers, wants the case to go to trial, but Google argues it lacks clarity on how Google's actions led to losses.

This comes amid ongoing investigations into Google's adtech practices by UK and EU regulators.

Google also faces similar lawsuits in the US. The company denies wrongdoing and says its impact on the ad tech industry has been positive.

This case joins others against tech giants at the Competition Appeal Tribunal in London.

As the 2024 U.S. campaign season approaches, Connected TV (CTV) is becoming a crucial platform for political ads, especially with restrictions on platforms like Facebook and TikTok.

With the decline in traditional TV viewership, CTV's advanced targeting capabilities allow campaigns to reach specific voter segments effectively.

However, the rise of deepfakes and AI-generated content poses significant challenges, requiring robust detection technologies and regulatory measures to ensure the integrity of political advertising.

At COP28, renewed commitments to ambitious climate targets highlighted the need to tackle climate change.

A promising solution discussed was merging carbon credits with Web3 technologies. Carbon credits incentivise emission cuts, but transparency issues hinder their effectiveness.

Web3, especially blockchain, ensures transparent and traceable transactions, boosting trust and monetising quality carbon credits.

Businesses adopting this approach can reduce their environmental impact, improve ESG credentials, and gain a competitive edge.

Despite challenges like scalability and regulation, starting with small projects can help overcome these hurdles and contribute to a greener future.
