As we approach the holiday season, gratitude is top of mind.

I am thankful for UC Davis College of Engineering faculty, staff, students, alumni and partners who are actively advancing our Next Level strategic vision. We're making a real impact in transforming mobility, revolutionizing energy systems, leveraging AI, ensuring impactful educational experiences and much more for the benefit of the engineering field and the world. You can explore several examples of our research and education in action in this edition of What's Trending.

Our third annual Next Level Research Awards were announced last week and recognize nine multi-investigator teams tackling bold projects that align with the college's strategic research vision. I appreciate these pioneering engineering faculty, and I'm proud to invest in their innovative research.

Looking forward, I'm grateful and honored to share that our community will host three engineering leaders on campus in early 2025. Please consider joining us in person to learn from our inaugural distinguished AI speaker, Eric Horvitz, and two dean's distinguished speakers, Rebecca Richards-Kortum and Jayathi Y. Murthy. Event dates and details are linked in the edition.

Of course, I'm also grateful to you — the colleagues and friends reading this newsletter. Thank you for exploring what's trending in the UC Davis College of Engineering and for spreading the word about our important efforts in engineering research and education.

Best regards,

Richard L. Corsi Dean, UC Davis College of Engineering
