In the 2023 business environment, companies are coping, more than ever, with complex and competitive circumstances. Business leaders in modern days must adapt to the transformation we all are experiencing and be better prepared to lead new initiatives for success in 2023.

Flattening organisation structures

Enterprises and their leaders are moving towards flatter structures to thrive in a cross-functional and collaborative environment.

This type of organisation benefits from enriched communication among employees, enhances determination, diminishes bureaucracy, and has the talent to make decisions and adjustments more rapidly. 

Typically, employees’ accountability levels are likely higher in flatter organisations, consequently rocketing job fulfilment whilst decreasing the need for overload levels of management.

Increasing need for leaders to advance themselves and their teams

Nowadays, employers find it challenging to retain employees in the organisation long enough and to avoid staff resignations; employers must empower employees through training and advancement next to their role.

How to approach the “Talent Cliff”

Enterprises must get ready as the central workforce in history moves into retirement. Coaching, Mentoring, and job shadowing are examples of how enterprises can manage the changeover of the Millennial leader.

Many companies hire interns and join apprenticeship courses to allow them to gain experience and for organisations to be capable of enlarging their workforce to economically give back to the community, positively impacting the organisation.

Endeavouring gender to maintain equilibrium

A successful leadership development program must integrate women’s representation, as they have proven to drive better organisational results and overcome the underutilised resources women represent.

  It is fair to accomplish gender equality as it is linked to a country’s better economic performance and growth. Improved companies’ ability to draw talent, maintain loyal employees and augment organisational prestige.

Several organisations are dynamically attempting to achieve equality and absolute diversity among workforce; a measure moved forwards mainly by Millennials and Generation Z.

Focus on the development of Soft Skills

Leaders move around managing teams which encompass different members with varied technical skills and areas of expertise; the primary leaders’ focus should be to improve teams’ soft skills.

Soft Skills are acquired over time. These skills include time management, creativity, adaptability and, above all, emotional intelligence. Investing in developing employees’ Soft Skills will result in improved Leadership, work performance, and satisfaction in the workplace.

Implementing a combined approach to Leadership and Management development

Leadership and Management training journeys must advance in implementing many modalities to prepare the contemporary leader with the skills needed to succeed.

Employing a combined method to develop Leadership allows leaders to segment their programs into more convenient sessions of one-to-one class coaching with mobile tools such as on-the-go tutorials and online webinars. Leaders can, without problems, fit into their day with minor disruption. 

The flexibility of combined learning is much easier as your company expands, mainly when remote working and working from home become more regular.

Blended leadership development is crucial for initiating leaders who can adjust to the ever-changing business atmosphere and empower them when welcoming their points of view and ideas and eager to promote them forward.

Flexible and Remote Working

At least one member of your team is likely to work remotely, whatever the reason. Employing the power of the latest technology, communication platforms, and Social Media beforehand will let your organisation move efficiently into remote working when the time comes. 

Remote working puts forward better flexibility, so better work-life balance for your employees; it also is an opportunity to engage people from other contexts and even countries, making the talent pool much more productive, which will help to develop your organisation.

There is no pretext for digital companies to embrace remote or part-remote positions in 2023 when there are multiple tools to transform your business, such as Zoom and Asana, Google Meeting and more. For teams to work at regular time intervals and provide quality work without the need for having groups collectively in one room.

Training Millennials

To prepare Millennials for Leadership, companies must develop training strategies and ensure a smooth transition for the following employees as Gen Z enters the workforce. 

Leadership styles have evolved ways of working everywhere; therefore, the leadership styles taught must be aligned with this. The company allows employees to bring new knowledge into an organisation by seeking training from outside sources. At the same time, set a different twirl on habits that might have been practised for years.

External consultants

Leaders should recognise that they need to learn more about their area of expertise, as they need to have and share all the answers; it unlocks the opening for an external consultant to share their know-how and skills. Consultants could get better communication skills, teamwork and administrative skills, and specific skills to carry on the job.

Artificial Intelligence

AI is being improved and applied to enhance and replace human customer service, saving costs and reducing the demand for human customer service staff. Whilst these bots can answer basic questions, there is still a need for a solid attendance of a customer services staff to maintain customers delighted. 

Operating with bots removes the need to answer cyclical and dull questions, freeing your staff to focus on the more challenging questions and eventually keeping your customers’ satisfaction; it is clear now that such agents are challenging to find. However, human empathy is crucial to ensure loyal customer satisfaction.

Conclusions: today’s Leadership trends matter to creating a confirming company culture which embraces a diversity of working styles and promotes the personal and professional development of the next generations. Train your leaders with the strategic capabilities required for success.
