Leadership Accountability Tips for CEOs

As a leader, are you willing to accept responsibility for your actions? Do you own up to your own mistakes?  Do you share your experiences with others? Leadership accountability is a choice, states Vistage speaker and Master Chair Greg Bustin.

Bustin describes the process of accountability as a support system for winners. McMillan suggests that two essential questions help leaders stick to their commitments, she states: What are you doing? And by when?

What are you doing? And by when?

 Bustin and McMillan both agree that goals should be SMART.  Accountability takes a level of honesty and discipline, so joining a leadership group to improve accountability, can help you to stay honest with yourself and others.  They encourage you to have that accountability conversation with your groups as well.

Goals can be met or stagnate, so You the leader, need to be on top of things. You need to possess key insight into the various challenges you may confront on a daily basis.  Both Chairs expressed the need to be in touch with reality and thereby stay accountable.
