Is Leadership Your True Calling?
With nearly two decades of experience under my belt, I've had the privilege of being guided by some exceptional leaders—Candy Sullivan, Karen Ash, Elisa Hernandez, Larry Rein, and Jeffrey Freimark. Their support, passion, patience, and, yes, even forgiveness (laughs!), have been instrumental in shaping my approach to leadership.
I firmly believe that we lead others based on how we ourselves have been led. My hope is that my leadership style has mirrored the positive traits I've admired and learned from over the years.
Leadership isn't merely a title; it's a profound calling. Success, respect, and growth elude those who lack empathy, respect for their team, and a willingness to evolve. Remember, leadership respect is earned, not granted by virtue of your position. If your approach is solely, "I am the leader," you're set to fail.
To those leaders questioning their fit in their roles: consider stepping aside. By staying, you may hinder your company's progress and the development of your team. As Benjamin Franklin wisely said, "If in doubt, don’t.” If you're doubting your place, it’s perhaps time to make room for those who are ready to lead positively.
For those committed to their growth and leadership journey, resources abound. Engage in executive coaching or explore tools like 'The Daily Habits of Leaders™' from MyHRLane. True leadership involves constant learning and skill refinement.
If it's been over a year since your last leadership training or development effort, revisit your motivations. Leading is challenging but immensely rewarding for those who are truly called to it.
Let's strive to be leaders who grow continuously and lead with purpose!
