Leading in the Covid-19 Crisis by Dr. Anitra Shelton-Quinn
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, leadership across the globe is being put to the test. Given the challenges that the Covid-19 crisis is presenting, it is imperative to revisit & reiterate key components of effective leaders. As a leader, the first step is recognizing that your organization is in crisis. Upon doing so, it is essential to recognize and embrace the fact that the foundational structure and systems in place are likely going to have to change for the safety & well being of everyone.
Secondly, the old cliché, “never let them see you sweat “ is more important now than ever before. As an effective leader, “keeping your cool” in order to navigate your organization through this critical process is key. Remember everything, including mindsets, as well as stress related to pandemonium, flows from the top, down.
Next, creating a tripartite balance across expertise, experience and intuition is vital for decisive decision-making. While, acknowledging challenges with certainty and identifying resources within your organization, will help to support the changes needed.
Finally, communication with support and collaborative goal setting can help any leader to rise to the challenge, while fostering resiliency and fortitude within the organization.
