Learning for Meaning and Fulfillment

Learning for Meaning and Fulfillment

Here is a guideline I use to achieve things that are meaningful to me.

This brings me a sense of fulfillment. It might just help you too!

Below, I explain where it came from.

Learning never came easily to me.

I can see now, my fixed mindset and lack of self belief played a massive role.

My fear of appearing stupid drove me to come up with strategies that aided my learning.

But I was learning for the wrong reasons.

It made it hard. Really hard!

I was trying to prove I was able to hold knowledge in my head.

Not for any purpose I truly valued.

Through good management or good fortune, maybe both, I landed in a career I love.

I was able to use my knowledge of learning to help others who also wanted to learn.

But over time, I came to realise that our reason for learning has a significant impact on our attention, engagement and persistence, which determines what we process and retain.

When we have a good reason to learn, it is easy(er).

When we are learning so we are able to achieve something meaningful, we are more motivated.

We pay attention.

We build on existing knowledge.

I wanted to learn more so I could offer greater value.

I read and listened to books.

I reflected on these books and how I could apply their messages to improve my own performance.

So I could add more meaning.

Achieve my purpose.

So others could achieve theirs.

I find great pleasure in what I do

So I thought I'd share what I came up with.
