LeoChat Series – Part 83: Exploring Servant Leadership with Linda Li

LeoChat Series – Part 83: Exploring Servant Leadership with Linda Li

Jenny: “What does Servant Leadership mean to you?”

Linda: “To me, Servant Leadership means putting the needs and growth of others before your own, empowering your team to succeed, and fostering a collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is valued. It’s about leading with empathy, humility, and a genuine desire to help others reach their potential. Rather than seeking power or recognition, a Servant leader ensures that their team members are supported and feel confident in their abilities.”

Jenny: “Would you be willing to share a brief anecdote of Servant Leadership?”

Linda: “During my time as the President of Compassion and Passion, I learned firsthand what it means to be a Servant leader. Our organization teaches financial literacy to underprivileged communities, and we rely on volunteers to help run workshops. One of our newest volunteers was nervous about presenting, feeling like they didn’t have enough experience to teach others. Rather than pushing them to the forefront immediately, I spent time mentoring them, guiding them through the content, and building their confidence.

At the next session, they led a segment and did a fantastic job, engaging the audience and explaining concepts clearly. Watching their growth and confidence flourish, knowing I played a part in that journey, was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me that true leadership isn’t about standing in the spotlight—it's about helping others shine.

This experience deepened my belief that leadership is most effective when it's about service, not authority. When we put our team's development at the center of our efforts, everyone benefits.”
