A Lesson In Industry Collaboration

2018 Small Business Expo - a lesson in industry collaboration

Business moves at a fast pace and many small businesses struggle to keep abreast of the latest tech. Event organiser, Paula Brand said technology is important in assisting small business owners to do business faster and more efficiently. “The Technology Hub will showcase the latest in technologies, software and hardware available,” she said.

“For the first time, we have business industry groups are collaborating at the Gold Coast Small Business Expo.”

This year, there are even more south east Queensland small business showcasing their wares in the biggest pop up store in the region, rivalling a Westfield Shopping Centre.

With over 100 trade tables already secured, the expo gives attendees the opportunity to promote their products and services to the hundreds of visitors that come.

Paula said previous expos have generated millions of dollars in business. “It is a day to SELL, SELL, SELL. The marketplace is a great place, in six hours, to buy from local small business owners and to pick up that latest information from three levels of government suitable to start-up companies through to mature businesses,” she said.

“Networking over lunch has always been a highlight of the expo and we have four new food trucks and wonderful local live music entertainers this year. Our events are known to be a celebration of business for all the hard work that we do day in day out,” she said.

Paula said the recent Brisbane expo generated over $2.1 million in business for the businesses that attended. “That is an average lead of over $8,000 per trade table. Nowhere else can so much business be done in such a short amount of time for businesses of this size,” she said.

“Over the past two years, the combined expos – Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane – have been responsible for over $6 million in business.”

The Expo is a unique marketplace, which does not look like an ordinary conference.  It is a place filled with noisy sales conversations, important information, fun and creativity.

Principal partner, Bartercard, encourages all small businesses to engage. Bartercard national sponsorship manager, Lisa Lees said there are hundreds of businesses around the region who make their choice towards cashless business transactions.

“We are happy to support and help grow as many small businesses as possible,” she said.

Paula said the expos have been successful because of the support of businesses like Bartercard and other local sponsors including Bendigo Bank, Gold Coast City Council, Be Local Today, R6 Digital,  New Haven Funerals.

“Small business does better business, when they band together and have a strong voice. It does not have to be a struggle, and the expo’s theme reflects the need for all stakeholders to collaborate to ensure we all succeed,” Paula said.
