Let’s challenge the attitudes towards poor handwriting!

You should never judge a book by its cover, so do not judge a person’s intelligence based on their illegible handwriting.

The poor handwriting we are seeing in so many young adults today has nothing to do with their level of intelligence. Many high academic achievers have extremely poor handwriting, including numerous doctors.

I have worked with teenagers and young adults, helping them to master legible handwriting. From this experience, I have learnt of the struggles many of them face when it comes to finding a job or getting a high grade in their exams, all because of their illegible handwriting.

However, the epidemic of poor handwriting I am seeing in secondary school children is actually being caused by the rush to join and the use of the continuous cursive model with the lead in/entry stoke.

So, join me in challenging the incorrect attitudes towards poor handwriting and challenging the Government and policy makers to ensure schools teach the correct letter formation with exit strokes, before rushing children to join up their handwriting just to meet the targets of the primary assessments.

Never give up on achieving legible handwriting; it is a window to our personality! http://bit.ly/2wSRXhf

Wouldn't it be good if the National Curriculum made handwriting for left-handers a statutory requirement rather than NON statutory! It seems like it was an "After thought" to show inclusion, without understanding that left-handers need more help with their handwriting than right-handers, to help them stop smudging etc!
