Let's Go To NASA: Mission, Vision, Purpose checklist.
One of the clarity questions we ask organizations from time to time during clarity sessions is the basics...Like what their mission and vision are and how well each team member is aware of this. like the Janitor who worked for NASA and was asked by President JF Kennedy when he visited the NASA Space Center in 1962.
"Hi, I'm Jack Kennedy what are you doing? The Janitor responded, I'm helping put a man on the moon Mr President"
As clear as this is, the Janitor understood his assignment and the role he was playing and chose on the value chain.
The Goal was simple, let's put a man on the moon and set up a team to make this possible. The realization of everyone on the team of their role makes it worth it for everyone.
We all are on several teams' value chains and sometimes we are passive about what the role is but the light bulb moment is always to help the best of us figure out our role and play it intentionally with the end in mind and the clear wins which must be measured with the yardstick of values and our destination in clear view
Mission: Imagine you're like the Greek god Hermes, the speedy messenger of the gods. Your mission is like your special job or task. Hermes delivers messages quickly from one place to another. So, a mission is like the important things you need to do in your life or work. It's what makes you special and helpful to others. We all recognize your uniqueness and the flair you put into this role.
So pause for a minute What is your mission in family, work, and the sub roles you play in different parts of your life? Go ahead and write them down.
Vision: Think of Zeus, the king of the gods, who looks after everything from above on Mount Olympus. His vision is like what he dreams about for the future. It's like what he hopes the world will be like. So, a vision is like the big, wonderful dream you have for your future or what you want to achieve when you grow up. It's the big dream about the future most times it has a timeline.
Have you heard of Vision 2050…. ? yeah, Visions have a timeline and you walk into it.
Purpose: Now, let's talk about Hestia, the goddess of the hearth and home. Her purpose is to keep the home cozy and safe.

So, a purpose is like the reason you do what you do. Hestia's purpose is to take care of the home. Your purpose is why you get up every day and do your mission. It's like what makes you happy and fulfilled. Hesita has a why she does her purpose you must always understand what your why is which would mean you continuously look at the mission and the vision for clarity and put in check
One more thing
So, just like the Greek gods have their missions, visions, and purposes, we all have our special jobs to do (mission), dreams for the future (vision), and reasons for doing what we love (purpose). It's what makes each of us unique and important in our way.
How are you planning your end-of-year retreat with your team?
Like a retrospective session, asking these questions is just the first step on the walk for clarity and reaffirming your achievements and new goals.
