Let's talk about mental health

Let's talk about mental health

Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you’ve had a lovely week so far!

How is it October already? This year is absolutely flying by 🍂

Today we’re talking about a fantastic ad from Specsavers , making time for movement and mental health in the workplace!

Let’s get started!!💗

Todays campaign share shows that successful marketing doesn’t have to be complicated💚

Specsavers are known for their eye catching campaigns and amusing ads.

So it comes as no surprise that their offline campaigns are just as good!

This is clear proof that Specsavers know what they are doing

Successful branding and tone of voice is so powerful!👏

What do you think?

I’m excited to welcome todays guest, meet Katrina Fleet . She is sharing why mental health isn’t a weakness with lots of actionable tips 💗

Mental health affects us all in some way or another, whether you are affected by it yourself or somebody close to you. So why is it still such a taboo topic? 🤔

As a person who struggles with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and anxiety, I know it is so easy to see mental health as a weakness, because I’m not worthy of that job, I’m not capable of reaching those goals, my negative obsessive thoughts are true. I’m not good enough.

I created my LinkedIn profile as part of an assignment at university in February. I started following others in the marketing field and began building my network. In the process of doing this, I really started to understand what makes LinkedIn different from other platforms, and one key thing I found amongst my connections, was how open and honest people were about mental health, stress, burnout etc.

It was these posts that inspired what I wanted to start posting via LinkedIn, and I was simply blown away by the response I received on my first post. These responses made me realise how important this topic is 💚

The mental health topic is definitely discussed a lot more now, but there is still a way to go. It shouldn’t be seen as a weakness or be a reason you feel you can’t achieve the same goals and have the same dreams as others.

This is why I decided to highlight the mission of my LinkedIn and Instagram (@positivitywithkat) accounts on my CV- which is to shine a light on mental health and start that conversation, sharing my experience too, as well as providing some positivity and motivation. Because struggling with your mental health, asking for help and talking about the topic shouldn’t be seen as a weakness or something to hide- and this includes within the workplace.

I thought I would share some general tips and tricks that help me de-stress and keep my negative thoughts at bay, and hopefully they may be helpful to you too!

  • Firstly, talk to those around you. It is perfectly okay to ask for help.
  • Take breaks- you deserve it!
  • Write things down- to-do lists, brain dumps, journal- get it all out on paper.
  • I loveee colouring- because adults can colour too! And I find it the perfect way to unwind (and reading books- I love a bit of romance and mystery as well as self-help books too)📚.
  • Take up a hobby! I am loving scrapbooking at the moment.
  • Go on a solo adventure! Whether it be a short walk in the park or a day out- take time to rest and have you time.

I really hope this helped anybody reading feel less alone and know that your feelings are valid and shouldn’t be something you hide out of fear of judgement. You are amazing and worthy of chasing your dreams and reaching your goals!

I love this advice so much!! It’s fantastic that there are open discussions around mental health in the workplace on LinkedIn because it’s something that should be spoken about more💓

Today’s advice is to make time for movement!

Take a second to stretch, move away from your desk for a break or even take yourself on a nice afternoon walk👟

When you’re stuck looking at a screen all day a break is a must!

This can be really refreshing and stop you from becoming burnt out💗

Today my post prompt is to share your values 🙌

Your values and morals are a key part of what makes you who you are!! It’s therefore important that this aligns with the clients you take on or the company you work for.

So this week share what’s important to you and tell us the values that you take pride in! 🥰

I look forward to reading these, please use #DiaryOfAYoungMarketer so I can come and show your post some support.

Have a lovely rest of the day🫶

Speak soon!

Our differences are what makes us, asking for help IMO is a strength, not a weakness.
