Let's talk about mental health in times of COVID-19

The #COVID19 pandemic is posing a threat not only for our bodies, but also for our minds.

For more than one year, this disease has brought a great amount of anxiety and uncertainty. Many have suffered loss and grief. Others have lost their sleep over worrying about people they love.

Diagnosis was delayed for many and patients found it harder to continue treatment. Healthcare professionals faced strain and exhaustion.

Lockdowns and social distancing were necessary measures to contain the virus, but they led to isolation, and consequently to loneliness and depression.

The way we work and study has changed dramatically. We are now doing our jobs from our homes. While this may have looked convenient in the beginning of the pandemic, it has caused extreme fatigue, a feeling of disconnection from colleagues, and immense stress for parents who had to juggle their job tasks while looking after children.

Let's talk about #MentalHealth in times of COVID-19, so we can act and tackle the issues we are facing now! I invite you to follow an event organised by the European Commission on 10 May, during the European Mental Health Awareness Week 2021, which aims to highlight the mental health impact of COVID-19 along five themes - understanding – living – caring – responding – acting.
