#LetsHangOurHeadsLowInSHAME or Live the true spirit of #DEI

#LetsHangOurHeadsLowInSHAME (This is about living the true spirit of #DEI and a huge HR and OD issue that every entrepreneur, employee and senior leaders must pay attention to help people develop the right mindset for being good humans who practice humanity, egalitarianism, secularism, equality and social justice (equal opportunity and fairness for each and every human being.) -

Dear Fellow Indians, In the land of Tagore who gave us the brilliant bold words "WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR AND THE HEAD IS HELD HIGH, my head hangs low in shame for the EMBARRASSING WORDS, ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOURS of WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA. What about you?!

Many people with cognitive biases may say this post does not belong on #LinkedIn. Well you are WRONG because this post belongs RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. And if it hurts your sentiments so be it! So please read it failing which there may be consequences for you like the #HR Executive from Tech Mahindra who learned #TheHardWay. Most Corporate, UN, INGO, Media, Government Organisations and the Educated Employees working therein celebrate #DiversityEquityIncusion (#DEI) Day or Week in their respective offices as #LipService but fail to UNDERSTAND, INTERNALISE or LIVE (practice) the #TrueSpiritOfDEI in their personal lives. And hence this post belongs here on #LinkedIn. So lets awaken and acknowledge that we do not practice #DEI in reality. A few years ago the HR head (This position should be the custodian of #DEI ) of #TechMahindra was fired for being homophobic. This lady who was a HR Executive had attended one of my talks on #DEI in a HR Forum earlier and during the talk, her #Islamophobic and #Homophobic mindset was OBVIOUS and STARK in the regressive thoughts she shared during in the forum). Please read more about it in these links.

Now like this lady from Tech Mahindra, there are many employees and senior leaders in organisations who wear masks and pretend they value #DEI but do not LIVE it in REALITY and need to rise over their religious, casteist, racist, supremacist, homophobic and entititled blind beliefs and mindsets . So let us awaken. I am sharing this post with the attachment that my life partner shared on her FB a few days back as given below. I remember a few years ago I met another HR head in Bombay who said Untouchability does not exist in India anymore (Where do these people get their education and which la la land do they live in?

My saner half #JugnuGrewalAlmeida shared this a few days ago on FB "and this is Gurgaon. Bigots .. the whole lot of them."

Now this is not just the petty mindset of people in Gurgaon but a mindset of most people in India and to add to this "Most people in Gurgaon who are apartment/house owners are so called highly educated people who work in Fortune 500 MNCs or are Unicorn venture and other business entrepreneurs/employees and participate in hypocritical celebrations of "#DiversityEquityInclusion #DEI" in the DEI week or day in their organisation like they celebrate #EarthHour for an hour while conspicuously consuming electricity in their homes for the rest of the year.

How can we say we are highly educated or even educated when we discriminate against other human beings based on religion, caste, creed, race, gender etc. To paraphrase fellow author and activist #PSainath "When people say they are highly educated, what they mean is they went to expensive schools and universities". I clarify and articulate his quite with a simpler insight "Most people are merely DEGREED, but far from being educated"

I always ask in my columns and speeches "Are we the world's largest #Democracy or #Hypocrisy?"... I think, believe and feel we need to hang out heads in shame for being educated and yet not knowing, understanding or practicing our fundamental rights, duties and preamble (for the educated uninitiated citizens of India... our Preamble declares #India to be a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. The objectives stated by the Preamble are to secure justice, liberty, equality to all citizens and promote fraternity to maintain unity and integrity of the nation... please do note that nowhere in our constitution we are called a #HinduNation) given in the #IndianConstitution that #WeThePeople gave ourselves on #26November 1949 and do some deep #introspection and #reflection as a nation and citizenry who have failed the idea of India as a Democracy.
