Letting Go (it's not as hard as you think)

You've heard the phrase "letting go of something good to grab ahold of something better" I'm sure. It's one of those clichés that people toss around when they're trying to justify making a big change in their lives.

But have you ever stopped to think about how ridiculous this idea actually is? I mean, why would anyone want to let go of something good? It's like saying, "I'm going to give up my delicious cheeseburger for a plate of brussels sprouts because they're supposed to be better for me."

But as crazy as it may sound, there is actually some truth to the idea of letting go of something good to grab ahold of something better.

Sometimes, we get so comfortable with what we have that we become complacent. We settle for less than we deserve because we're afraid of taking a risk and trying something new. We're like the frog in the pot of boiling water who doesn't realize that the temperature is slowly rising until it's too late.

So, what does it take to let go of something good and grab ahold of something better?

For starters, it takes a sense of adventure. You have to be willing to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. This might mean leaving a job you've had for years to pursue a new career or ending a long-term relationship to explore new opportunities.

It also takes a willingness to let go of the past. This can be one of the hardest parts of making a big change. We get attached to the people, places, and things that we're used to, and it can be difficult to imagine life without them. But if you want to grab ahold of something better, you have to be willing to let go of what's holding you back.

If you want to grab ahold of something better, you have to be willing to let go of what's holding you back.

Of course, letting go of something good doesn't mean that you have to settle for something worse. In fact, the whole point of letting go is to make room for something better.

So, don't be afraid to dream big and aim high. Maybe you've always wanted to start your own business, travel the world, or pursue that hobby you've been putting off because of the business. Whatever it is, don't let fear or doubt hold you back.

The next time someone tells you to let go of something good to grab ahold of something better, don't dismiss it as just another cliché. Instead, embrace the spirit of adventure and the willingness to take risks. Who knows what amazing things might be waiting for you just around the corner? So, go ahead, let go, and grab onto something better – your next adventure awaits!

I had a delightful conversation with William McGinnis on this week's episode of the Serve Strong Finish Strong podcast. He talked about letting go of the whitewater rafting company he founded in order to pursue his love of writing novels.
