According to my understanding, there are three stages of direct connection between the Divine Being and human beings: the first being the spirit or ruah, as understood perhaps via inspiration; the second, the mind or psyche or nefesh, that is, the thinking organ or the ability to think in both concrete and abstract terms about the past, present, and future as well as feeling, sensing or perceiving, analyzing, assessing,evaluating, judging, and intuiting; and, thirdly, the soul or neshamah. that is,a part of G-d as the human being's link or connection to G-d Himself. Being an avowed atheist or non-believer and a scientist, Steven Pinker totally discounts the explanation above in this highly intellectual conversation.
