"You can close your ears, and run your mouth, but one day homeboy you'll soon find out, life is too short," - Todd Anthony Shaw, aka Too Short. These are words spoken from a modern day philosopher. He is the kind of philosopher that is not easy on the ears for the "Unstreet." Actually, his philosophy is what some would call vulgar and grotesque. It is. There is still a wisdom in knowledge that some words spoken from one tongue, cannot automatically rule out the truth in other words spoken by the same tongue.
Life is too short. Today will be tomorrow, if we make it there. One year from now is literally only one year from now. What will you fill that one year with? Will it be an automatic playlist you created, restarting from the last song? Or, do you plan on creating a new playlist of life's adventures from new artists and people you have yet to meet?
As you know, or should by now, My Great Aunt EDNA is a leadership platform. But true leadership begins with leading yourself. As leaders, people look up to us, and look to us to make decisions that impact their lives. We tend to make those decisions rather effortlessly after we've been in leadership for a length of time. So, why is it we struggle with doing the same for ourselves? What is wrong with you, looking up to you?! Why is it you don't look to you to make decisions that impact your life?! Ironically, leaders look to be led more often than we'd like to admit.
Life is too short. Tomorrow will be two days later, if we make it there. Make the damn decision, today. Book the trip, today. Call that person, today. Hug that someone, today. Write the first chapter, today. Take the medicine, today. Enroll in school, today. Go to the gym, today. Promote that person, today. Coach that problem, today. Fix the drip, today. Try that crazy idea, today. Tell them off, today. Stand up for yourself, today. Throw away the drugs, today. Go to church, today. Cry those tears, today. Watch that movie, today. Write that movie, today. Buy the dog, today. Take a nap, today. Leave danger, today. Hike that trail, today. Try that new recipe, today. Lead yourself, today.
Life is too short. Next week will be last month, if we make it there. I am sure you are all familiar with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, right? It was shoved down our throats in business school. Forget Maslow. Create (fill in blank's) Hierarchy of Needs, today. What needs do you have? Consider yourself a leadership Ferrari. Without filling up your own tank, you cannot give your teams a thrilling ride. Start filling up, today.
Life is too short. "It's your life, don't be stupid though. Cuz when you waste it, you'll know," - Todd Anthony Shaw, aka Too Short.
