The Light of the Soul

The Light of the Soul

You are beautiful. Yes, you. You are. You may not believe it most of the time. I don’t even believe it about myself most of the time. But, I know that it’s true because I look at these photos and I feel it. I feel it in my heart. My heart tells me that it’s true. We have, inside of us, a light that is as bright and powerful as the sun. And sunlight triggers it. This is the light of the soul. What you have to remember is that it’s the soul that matters. It’s the soul that you need to see, and focus on, and show to the world. Now more than ever our souls mean something. In this time where there is so much focus on the body (COVID 19, George Floyd) we must remember that it’s what’s inside those bodies that counts most. In some ways this is the silver lining of the t. If we times. If we choose, we can look beyond the mask to what’s beneath the skin. Do you see it? Do you feel it? I do. Boy do I feel it. It almost knocks me over, that lifeforce, that soul, that essence that is hard to see but easy to feel if you let yourself feel it. I take photographs because I want to be close to that feeling. I want to reaffirm my belief that we are all good, and worthy, and beautiful. I guess I need to believe that about myself too. So you show me that I am beautiful because you are. I’m not talking Sports Illustrated swimsuit models beauty. I’m talking about the beauty of the soul. Each one of you has that. You have that. And it’s my privilege to capture it, and show it, and to be as close to it as I can get. Because it rubs off on me and it fills me with purpose and meaning.
