LinkedIn has been like a bolt of lightning!⚡
LinkedIn has been like a bolt of Lightning recently (simile)
Whilst on holiday in the west of France we stayed in a spectacular place called La Vendee with an absolutely die-for beach, and we made sure to make the most of it.
One evening, whilst on the beach there, we played a bit of the obligatory bat and ball with the kids. The sea was as calm as calm can be. We were enjoying this novel seaside serenity when – quite out of the blue – a voice cried: “Did you just see that?!!... Did you see it?!!”
A humongous bolt of lightning had struck the sea. Completely awe-inspiring to look at, but somewhat scary at the same time. It was like a laser show with a Turner painting for a backdrop - the scene was incredible. All sorts of blazing patterns in the sky. That image will stay with me (and doubtless my kids too) for the rest of my days…
Everyone took the once-in-a-lifetime chance to film the surreal effects of the lightning. An opportune moment for my editing skills to really come into play.
Did you know that in France most people have Android phones as opposed to Iphones?
That lightning strike was a metaphor for LinkedIn, I felt! These past months we’ve been struck with a series of flashy new features. To find out more keep scrolling...
Flashy new features
Such as the ability to add a clickable link to images as well as being able to add an outside link. This is a superb new feature as it is unlikely to affect the algorithm or the post going into others’ news feeds. Photo by my wonderful colleague Gila Archer (Pilates Instructor) showing a link to her new book which she has launched recently enjoying moving and feeling fabulous. The links are being rolled out on desktop and mobile so I'd love to hear when you have it! Links can also be now added to the LinkedIn newsletter images and video on a desktop! As well as hashtags on newsletters #newsletter
And what about the new templates which are rolling out? They are like Canva (arguably not quite as creative), but super handy when wanting to inject your background with a bit of colour, in super speed time, with headlines and videos to boot! Video example by LinkedIn!
Other features which are being rolled out are in the comments you will be able to pin your comment to the top of your post which will be handy when adding a link it will be no longer lost in all the comments. Saving a draft to a desktop is something I have been waiting for, for a while, so much easier when you begin to write something but do not always have the time to finish it, you can go back to the draft! With the business page, you can now invite over 5,000 1st degree connections to speak to the amazing Michelle Raymond who is an expert on business pages!
Content
Selfies remain as popular as they’ve ever been. The selfie is the modern means of self-expression, allowing folk to assert themselves in all manner of different ways. Being on Holiday has obviously been the key selfie theme for August. I personally always prefer natural selfies. Maybe not so natural as to the point of just waking up, but you know what I mean! The more natural you can be in the way you put yourself out there and engage, the better.
TikTok videos are great short-form posts and are very popular on LinkedIn. We now have Capcut on both desktop and mobile – making adding captions so much easier and more affordable than in times gone by.
Entertainment
As I so often point out, humour in posts makes you instantly personable, and memorable. Nick Smethurst is the man of the month in the comedy stakes for me – he continues to entertain us all with his holiday posts with his son, make sure to check him out! But not only does he add joke posts he also has written a book on idioms which are fantastic for LinkedIn headlines! Check out Nick's most recent book!
The advent of these lightning bolt technologies is helping attract LinkedIn to a younger demographic now, so I’m looking forward to taking in loads more engaging videos this month. I have also discovered the Ai images of #midjourney recently which attract a new audience and they are great for creating all types of images check the image above!
On a par with humour in terms of popularity are emotional, empathic posts and they continue to make up a huge part of my live feed.
